Well... they are on the grow. Netbooks are becoming more popular each day with people only needing to check emails and surf the web briefly and rather than carrying a larger laptop (say 15") people opt for the small netbooks.

Personally, I am going to be purchasing one very soon as I will be using it as my notes and basically my exercise book/paper for school (of course I'll use normal books for maths XD hehe)...

I've been looking around, and there are heaps, but a lot of them soar above a lot of normal laptop prices, but I've come across this: Kogan Agora Netbook PRO - Kogan Technologies Pty Ltd

It's a new netbook which runs on gOS (similar to linux based, but combines the looks of linux, mac and windows! ^_^). I think it's great value for money!

Opinions?

Just get the ePCs, they're great, cheap and do the job.

They say those Agora netbooks look pretty nice but their functionality is a bit dodgy.. Still, it is pretty cheap lol

Have a link to where I can take a look? I've been searching around and the ones I find aren't all that great in price vs. productivity.

You don't have to buy direct from msi. Many stores stock them - i got mine from a computer store.

Thanks for that... but I think the Kogan is still slightly better value for money :p... and infact I think I like the gOS (operating system) a lot. [I can always install Windows XP myself)

Although those MSI netbooks are very well priced. ^^

Sorry to hijack the thread, but what do you guys think would be the best bet in just a netbook to take to school everyday (english, SAC, study periods, japanese..)
out of the MSI wind U100, the acer aspires (450-500$range) or the (heavily mentioned in this thread) Kogan Agora Netbook pro?
thanks for the help :)

I'd be wary of Kogan because they're an Australian brand. Best looking netbook IMO are the Dell Minis.

The Kogan netbook has shitty wireless... and this was a massive deal breaker for me.

I think it comes down to Asus Eee Pc vs MSI wind; i opted for the latter since it was cheaper and easier to find (I paid $519 for a U100+)

All the specs are so similar, you should pick based on looks, weight and battery life (I have 6 hours)

If you do get the Wind U100+, you won't regret it.

i spent $250 on the Asus 701 SD eee pc. It's fucking awesome!

If you want to learn how to optimise it, read my wiki here - Netbook - OCAU Wiki
How'd you get one that cheap! woah.

Have you got the Kogan Netbook Pro? I've read reviews and there are varying opinions about the wireless. See, the wireless will need configuration if you know what you're doing (and I'm extremely familiar with almost every OS now... so I'm sure I could get a decent wireless signal.

Besides, Install XP or Windows 7 on the Kogan and it will most likely have a stronger signal/reception as the mini card in the netbook is associated with Windows applications.

catchoftheday.com.au regularly sell netbooks. btw they're having a 1.2million dollar netbook sale on thursday.

Mine was a 7" screen, 356mb ram (removable), runs linux, and has 4GB of solid state storage

Bought 2GB of ram to max for like $20 and bough an 8GB SDHC class 6 card.
then installed xp lite. the instructions are at that link, but now i have a really good email/travel laptop. It plays hd movies, wifi etc

My sister just got the netbook that KRudd promised.

I have to say. I'm impressed. It's pretty damn good. Strong wireless signal, Windows 7, lots of preinstalled software (Photoshop, Flash, M Office)

BUT, basically everything is blocked on the internet. They have got a very clever security system which blocks networking sites, messenger is disabled as well. You can't even install active X (the new flash won't go on XDhahaa)

It's good for a free on though.

I should just format it for my sister and boot it up all herself. She should just leave school and never go back... >_> hahaa
