Re: The Official Football Thread

Ballack free
Pizarro free
Sidwell free
A.Cole £5m + Gallas
Deco £8m
Kalou £8m
Ivanovic £9m
Malouda £13m
Anelka £15m
Bosingwa £16m
Zhirkov £18m

Other than the stupid splash out on Shevchenko, that has been pretty much Chelsea's transfers in for the last 4 years. As I said before, it’s the Man U and Man City and Real Madrid who spend the £30m+ for the past 4 seasons, YET Chelsea gets all the bad press….
chelsea have an astronomical wage bill (70% of annual turnover if i recall correctly). the difference between chelsea's wage bill and united's is £50m and the difference in arsenal's is £70m.

that's 2 solid transfers - 3 in arsenal's case.

Re: The Official Football Thread

Many ignorant naive people believe that Chelsea spend £50m on each player. Man City has spent close to double what we have in one season, and yet they still not guaranteed top 4. Teams like Man Utd spend £20m-30m every summer, yet they never get criticised for being bankrolled by the Glazers. Roman Abramovich has stated since 2006, that Chelsea will spend less, since the farcical transfer of Shevchenko, and he has still kept his word. The money Abramovich has put in has been rebuilding facilities and paying wages to players and staff. He has also stated the club plans to clear off debts (which he has), break even soon, reduce losses (already achieving that, and soon break even) and become more self-sufficient. Obviously this is difficult when we have City spending £200m a season and offering Kaka £100m and Eto’o £50m+ and Real Madrid spending £80m on Cristiano.

In today's transfer market that just isn't enough. Spending more than they have increases the debt higher and raises the interest needed to be repaid. United are in a financial problem, which is why the club is in talks with JP Morgan and Deutsche Bank about a loan to pay off the loan they needed to pay off the debt. It's financial suicide! ... Abramovich knows this, he won’t allow Chelsea to become into a financial spot of bother, like what happened under Bates in 2002/03.

Then there’s this idea that Chelsea dominate the transfer market - but that’s absolute rubbish. Chelsea like what Man Utd did when they bought a young Cristiano Ronaldo from Sporting, and Arsenal did with Fabregas and Mereida from Barcelona and Liverpool bought Pacheco from Barcelona, is to look for cheap players and grow them in the academies, which is what we’re doing with Kakuta, Borini, Bruma, Stoch, Hutchinson, Mancienne, Di Santo, Sinclair, Matic and Sturridge.
Yes we have an ageing squad, and sooner some of our first teamers will call it quits soon, so the young players we have will soon become first-teamers, which is why Ancelotti and Wilkins are giving them game time or loaning some for first team experience, preparing them to graduate to the Chelsea first team.

Ballack free
Pizarro free...still had to pay his wages
Sidwell free..great hairstyle, but no talent.
A.Cole £5m + Gallas
Deco £8m
Kalou £8m
Ivanovic £9m
Malouda £13m...WAY TOO MUCH FOR HIM.
Anelka £15m..Best signing in the striker department
Bosingwa £16m
Zhirkov £18m

Good points made. Chelsea's wage bill is extraordinary..this is the probably the reason why Abramovich is reluctant to give Ancelotti money to spend.:D

Chelsea gets the bad press because we have a Russian billionaire who knows what he is doing unlike other owners such as the Glazers who are swamped with so much glory (thanks to Man United) in the last couple of years I swear Shevchenko has to be the worst buy Chelsea's ever made, but spot on about everything. Those jealous people forget who is top atm. At least we are still leading the EPL, in contention for FA Cup and Champions League. However I don't think Bosingwa is worth 16 mill, but Anelka has to be the best signing in the last 5 years.

Re: The Official Football Thread

Let's hope he continues this form.

And Rooney is on fire this season. Hope Arsenal smack Chelsea.
You know that will not happen. 1. Arsenal are very-poor atm. 2. Chelsea havent been beaten at the Bridge for some-time, plus a certain Drogba is back from AFCON. Fabregas may be gifted, Arshavin may have great skills, but its no-where near enough to get a win. :D
