Study Journal: How I'm going to get 99.95 ATAR (2 Viewers)

I'm creating this thread to share a few tips and to hold myself accountable for my goals and study

Goals:

A wish is a goal without a plan of action, so here's my action plan to ace the upcoming half yearlies:

I think your goals are a bit extreme but some what effective if done PROPERLY.

I think 1 essays per day is pretty extreme also ... even 2-3 essays per week is A LOT.


I should do some more notes and memorising Module B now ... Didn't spend much time on English and SOR...... Hopefully I'll get A for all my subjects considering I've spent heaps on the Sciences and Math... and SOR is easy

This plan is unrealistic. You haven't got a suggested timeframe to complete most of the tasks. Believe me when I say that you've put far too much work on your plate, and you're planning on doing ineffective work that doesn't require active knowledge application or sophisticated thought (which is where the best learning happens).

1) Blade Runner is a film; plenty of meaning is lost when you only use the script for examples. Watch it and you'll be able to comment on other aspects such as lighting, clothing choices, camera angles, recurring motifs, biblical references, make up... and most importantly if you find these examples, you don't have to remember a quote word for word.

Remember, there is also a lot of research involved in each English topic. This involves a lot of reading on context, social/economic/political influences, not to mention learning hundreds of language techniques that they never teach at school.


2) Maths: memorise the formula, then go and practice using it. No wasting time with writing too many notes, and using too many textbooks! Use alternate textbooks only if you don't understand the concept. And practice using your skills in harder problems that require higher level thinking. I'd suggest building up your skills by going through Terry Lee, Fitzpatrick, Cambridge then the occassional past paper (ie throughout the year). 4 months of so from the HSC exams, go through some older ones first, then start on the more recent ones.

PS. people say you DO the maths, not read it!

Also, there are trial papers that will help you in preparation, so you have more than 17 3u papers to work with.

6. Complete
a. all of Excel Maths Ext 1 step by step book
b. Complete/revise all of Maths in focus from beginning to end.
c. 50 tips book.

This is a waste of time. It's too easy to accelerate your learning or to cultivate the necessary skills to do well.

Spending time on past papers and trial papers from other schools will be where you would be making the most of your time.

A better plan would be to:
-Write 5-8 dot points on the content heavy subjects per day, then practice some questions from the textbook or past papers for 40mins.

-Practice 2h of maths per day (this is a loose reference)

-Revise one different subject for 30mins everyday (eg English on Monday, Chemistry on Tuesday)

-English is something mostly done in large blocks of time so this is flexible

-Play/socialise/exercise/party/work

nice plan most teachers say the HSC is all about organisation and self-descipline to work hard and study, so simply said yet so hard when in putting it into practice. i hope this works for you, i will probably do the same thing now but not as extreme as yours lol

Your motivation will decrease at an increasing rate when you realise you haven't done anything and take note of how little time you have left.

You won't do half of the stuff suggested.

To achieve this, you will have to literally do nothing but grind like 10+ hours a day on those goals. I'd reconsider the possibility of insanity after you undertake this.

If you do actually somehow do all of this, l wouldn't know if l would be really impressed or really shocked.

Probably both.

2. Revise the following topics (in cambridge)
a. Perms and Coms
b. Parametrix and the Parabola
c. Polynomials
d. Further Trigonometry
e. Mathematical induction
f. Ratio of interval rule
3. Complete all the relevant topics in Fitzpatrick
a. Plane Geometry
b. Trigonometry
c. Trigonometric equations
d. Miscellaneous
e. Calculus
f. Inverse trigonometric functions
g. Polynomials
h. Permutations and combinations
4. Compile a Formula/theory book at the same time/Make posters for theories and formulas
5. Complete all the 3u past papers (there are 17 in total)

Here's the edited and refined plan of action, thanks to the advice you guys
This should be more efficient.

Plan of Action

English

1. Finish off and memorise tutor’s essay

2. Write an another epicly long and broad generic essay or use tutor’s essay

3. Adapt to all known questions and get writing speed from 1080 to 1800 words per 45 minutes.

4. Quickly write notes/Mind map for the module using oxford, excel, top notes and the other printed notes.

5. Get a list of quotes for Frankenstein and Blade Runner and memorise them.

6. Memorise all the new vocabulary in the new words books and construct sentences that are pertinent to my life; that is draw from my current experiences

Business Studies

1. Quickly write syllabus dot point notes using Cambridge and case studies for each dot point for( REALLY QUICKLY, LIKE A SENTENCE FOR EACH DOT POINT)

a. Business Management and Change (SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 45 MINUTES)

b. Financial Planning and Management(SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 45 MINUTES)

c. Marketing (SHOULD TAKE NO MORE THAN 45 MINUTES)

2. Hand in this summary

3. Memorise the Syllabus dot points for/or MIND MAP IT

a. Business Management and Change

b. Financial Planning and Management

c. Marketing

4. Memorise and recite ALL the terms in the margins in Cambridge textbook

5. Complete the definition sheets for topics 1, 2 and 3(REALLY QUICKLY, LIKE 4 MINUTES EACH)

6. Go through all the past paper books and answer ALL the questions relating to the first 3 topics

a. Success One

b. DO AT LEAST 20 EXTENDED RESPONSE QUESTIONS AND GET TEACHER TO MARK THEM



Mathematics Extension 1

1. Finish 3u step by step book ASAP

2. Quickly look through the circled questions in the Cambridge books

3. Finish the 18 past papers from School ( task 1 and task 2)

4. Finish all the 3u HSC past papers and trial papers (coroneas, success one), as it much more effective to do so.

Mathematics Extension 2

1. Revise in SK patel

a. Complex Numbers

b. Polynomials

2. Compile a Formula/theory book at the same time/Make posters for theories and formulas

3. Complete all the relevant sections in

a. Terry Lee’s blue book

b. Excel 50 tips

c. Cambridge

d. 4u topic by topic

4. Complete all of School's past papers (there are 8 in total)

5. Do every question in the coroneas and success one past papers book from the 2 topics

Physics

1. Quickly memorise the students guide to physics for Topics 1 and 2 and do whatever to memorise all the formulas

2. Memorise all the pracs through typing them up or whatever

a. Space

b. Motors and Generators

3. Finish Creelman

4. Answer all the questions in Dot Point verbally and repeat the explanations/answers at least 5 times for the ones that are new, or unfamiliar.

5. Complete all the questions for the first two topics in

6. Excel physics

7. Physics in Focus

8. Jacaranda Physics

9. Creelman

10. Other past paper books

What I've done:

Motors and Generators past paper
Halfway through the excel 3u step by step
Did a practice essay to see how much I could write in 45 minutes- 1080 words, need to keep practicing

Tomorrow's Goals:

1. Rewrite a half done essay to improve speed.
2. Finish the 3u excel book
3. Memorise Physics notes for topics 1,2 and formulas
4. Write notes for topics 1,2,3 for Business Studies
5. Do a 3u past paper
6. Do a 4u past paper
7. Finish off essay from tutoring and submit it.
8. Revise a bit of 4u if not asleep.

I'll find out soon enough. I think anybody is legit as long as they're willing to put the effort in.

My problem is a lack of discipline and motivation, which is the precise reason why I started this journal; to keep myself motivated consistently to work towards this outrageous goal until the very day of the HSC exams.

Not many people would tell you that they worked their ass off to get their 99.95. Enlighten me; tell me everything you know about how to get 99.95. I need that 99.95 atar. Oh and what's your plan?

The to-do list is just the perfect scenario I'm working towards, so that I will always have something to do, and if it doesn't get done, which I hope isn't going to happen, it'll carry on to the next day.

you don't need to do that much or get 100% in most assessments to get 99.95 .. but all the best of luck lol
