The incompetence of my English teachers was shown the other day. I write up a soliliquy analysis; made two copies. Gave one to one teacher, and gave the other to another. Both of them are English Advanced teachers - one being the coordinator, the other one a former coordinater.
From one teacher, I get an A+, saying I had great detail, analysis etc. etc.
From the other teacher, I get a C -, saying there was a lack of detail and a lack of effort at analysis.
Personally, I find this absolutely ridiculous. I can live with discrepancies in marking, but that gap is absolutely stupid.
Now, this leaves me in two minds with my work; is what I'm doing right or wrong?
I will be so glad to leave this hole.

You want incompetence - our english department stuffed up our final HSC ranks for advanced english. We only managed to figure it out days before they were due to submit them to BOS - lucky we all compared ranks.

Half of my schools maths department don't even know maths, 3 out of 6 teachers cannot even understand functions.

Lucky I don't have them.

It was the opposite at our school. The maths department was run like a swiss watch. The english department was an absolute shambles.

My english teachers are really good and mark so similar and put lots of effort into helping us, but they are really bad at counting up our marks as often you will find adding mistakes.

The marking discrepancies that some teachers have are just ridiculous. In my trial Modern History exam I got one essay marked 23/25 and another one 15/25. I thought that there can't be such a difference in marking when both my essays follow basically the same structure just have different data because of the different topic. When I asked the teacher why I received such a low mark for the second essay he told me that I didn't include some points in the essay which I actually did include. Anyway, the teacher decided "to stick with the 15" because "I didn't have enough info". It didn't affect my ranking but really affected my mark and it's just funny how they teachers have differences in marking.

No, thats what makes it so tragic...
My teacher would probably do this too. We only have ~10 in prelim eco and it will drop to 6 in year 12 (We have a really small (Cohort)

My teacher would maybe spend the lesson explaining the study and having a discussion

One english teacher accidentally used the actual trial paper as study material - causing BOS to have to issue a separate paper with different questions and force us to take another exam.

To say sorry, the school gave us a day off after the exam.

Marking can be very subjective.

My school always double marked HSC assessments so at least these kind of discrepancies were unlikely to greatly affect hsc marks.

Yah, I understand what you mean, especially in english where you would ask 'where did I go wrong?'. They look at your mark and fit their criticism to match the mark and justify it with any BS they can make up with. The best way to know the teacher is being extremely bias is when you compare your work quality with another student + see if the marks are consistent.

It is true when teachers say 'they have differences in marking'. Perhaps their standard is alot different to another teacher. The rule is, if everyone does bad, its ok. But if everyone does well, and you do shit, then you must ask yourself 'wdf? Did i work hard or was it all bias marking'.

Try having my english teachers. Thankfully they only teach ESL and not standard or advance.

This is why you go to one teacher to mark it :D and this is why my school marked consistently (one teacher marked all of the same type essays). Therefore the teacher's view of marking would be consistent across the whole form. but yeah if they do not like a particular feature, hard working students will get marked down on bullshit comments. Maths ftw! because it cannot be subjective.

This is like the science assignment we just got back. About 5 different teachers marked it and they're so different! One teacher marked part A and gave me 20/22 cause apparently I missed out a section, showed my teacher who didn't even read it that I had done it and he changed my mark to 22 even though it was like 2 lines. My teacher marked my part B and gave me 49/50 so I topped our cohort and beat the top class (yes, embarrasingly I'm in one of the dud science classes) just because I got the easy marker. I know I probs shouldn't be complaining but it seems kinda slack for everyone else who got the harder markers.
