Year 12. Definitely. But still pay attention in prelim bio. You learn stuff in prelim that will pop up in HSC. I'm not sure if osmosis/diffusion was in prelim, but it plays a HUGE part in HSC.
Prelim bio revolves more around plants and HSC bio is more human biology.

That is really making me consider choosing biology next year. I don't know why, but thanks :)

lol year 11 biology fucking sucks. Year 12 is good though, more focus on human biology, especially in 'The Search for Better Health'.

Just saying... I almost failed prelim bio (and was ranked like 50-something) ... Look at my rank now :p \/\/\/\/

I'm not saying it's not important, but so far, we have barely touched any prelim knowledge at all (except for the odd diffusion and osmosis, possibly a bit more).
But year 12 bio is a lot better than year 11, I hated year 11 which made me not want to listen, but I find bio really interesting and fun now, meaning I work and listen in it

This has been really enlightening for me since I'm enjoying every bit of bio right now. I can't wait for y12 bio in that case, haha thx guys! I especially like the human focus of the y12 syllabus vs plant based syllabus for y12

I found Year 12 Biology to be much more fascinating, especially when it came to studying diseases and genes.

Many people seem to like Year 12 more because it has more stuff related to the human body as opposed to the anatomy of plants.

Year 12 Bio is more interesting than year 11 bio for this reason

I thought year 11 bio was pretty interesting :0 I enjoyed all the modules. What wasn't interesting about it? On the other hand, I looked at year 12 bio... >=(

Why?
Year 12 bio is fantastic! WAY better than prelim bio. A lot of prelim focuses on the basics and plants (ew) but year 12 is more about the human body and its topics are just generally more interesting. Like you learn all about blood and diseases and the kidney and genes. Its really interesting to learn.

It's not entirely horrible, I just found the content quite dull. I didn't have a 'bad' year studying it, it was just boring most days.

This. Its not so bad when your doing it, its only in year 12 that you notice/realise how much better the HSC course is.

I actually enjoyed that :0. Looking back, I really enjoyed learning bio in year 11.

Quick summary:
Local ecosystem - didn't like much. biomass pyramid bit was ok
Patterns in Nature - Liked all the cell functions and stuff, digestive system and how plants work
Life On Earth - Very interesting module. I'm into a lot of theories of evolution and what early Earth was like so I thought it was fun to do. Classifying part was useless
Evolution of Australian Biota - Not really interested in Australian fauna/flora. Liked the ways flowers reproduce.

Overall, not bad of a prelim syllabus. Much more interesting than the Physics syllabus.

Agreed local ecosystem was terribly boring.
Oh, true, the cell functions was interesting and the Urey and Miller experiment was awesome.

HSC bio>>>>>>Yr 11 bio

But Yr 11 bio is not all bad, it's just the first topic I did was dry (first 6 weeks then got better), we had some really fun times in our term 2 and 3 topics. I still enjoyed Yr 11 bio, but then you get to Yr 12 and realise Yr 12 bio is even better :)

But most subjects people think the HSC course is more interesting, can only think of a few where some people say prelim course was better.

HSC= 100x better than Prelim. I still enjoyed the Preliminary course though, except that the HSC course is much more interesting and the content engages you.

Maintaining Balance = best part was dissecting the kidney imo and how the kidney works.
Blueprint= Punnett Squares!! Extremely fun imo
Search for Better Health= researching interesting diseases and antibiotic resistant bacteria (e.g. golden staph) etc is pretty fun. Liked the whole B-cell and T-cell stuff cus its like star wars happening in ur body.
Communication= heard theres a lot of dissection and more related to human body.

OVERALL, I enjoy the HSC Bio course right now. After going through the three main modules, you will realise how extremely mortal you are.
