BRB robbing swiss bank to pay for public transport in NSW for my education (1 Viewer)

I have saved money but still...it's like daylight robbery. $1500+ a year for transport just makes my inner indian stinginess hurt.
Why are we paying any more than we already are for our education?

p.s our fee statements have hit myUNSW. Check it out if you haven't already

you dont go to uni 52 weeks a year its more like $900 since you only go to uni for 30 weeks

What's the alternative though? Do you expect the university to pay for your transportation? It's like getting a job, you don't get paid for your commuting time (although some jobs may take it into account in your salary). The transportation here isn't even that expensive, and the government even pays Youth Allowance if you really need it. Plus, it's either the ~$1000ish for transportation, or $10,000+ to rent a room closer to uni.

Honestly, I'm just glad we don't pay for uni anywhere near as much as the poor bastards in the US do...

actually, sydney is listed amongst the most expensive in terms of public transportation in the world, it clocks in at around 7th.

I remember when I had to go to uni on Saturday, and because I had a MyMulti - I could take the extra train and bus ride on a day I don't usually go to uni, for "free".

Also meant that if my friends and I have adventures, including spur-of-the-moment trips to random Japanese restaurants, the casino, Darling Harbour or one time - a ~shop~ that sells ~toys~ - all those are at no extra cost.


So personally, I don't mind it because... you just have to use it enough so that you save money had you bought individual tickets otherwise. If, of course, the benefit of going on adventures outweighs the time and the like spent on them.

Well, the government already subsidizes a majority of cityrail, so you can imagine how much more expensive it would be if cityrail was private. :S

Only reason they are being heavily subsidized is to get more people on trains. T_T

Fair point. I guess I was thinking more along subjective lines - I don't really consider $22 to $30.50 a week for unlimited public transport to be expensive, but it depends on one's circumstances of course.
