Tony Abbott is a centre-right candidate who comes from a centre right conservative party. Julia Gillard is a candidate from the left but has adopted policies that belong to conservatives and the centre-right. Julia Gillard is a woman of many masks playing the loyal deputy then adopting Liberal positions as Prime Minister so who can tell which is her true face?

Okashi mate great to hear from you. The thing to remember is that Gillard is a closet Tory. Her faction is the Socialist Victorian Left. Her positions on public policy make a mockery of her factional originations. The Government that Gillard leads has adopted a hard line anti-welfare rights approach to the Single Parent Pension with emphasis of transferring parents onto the lesser valued payment (New Start Allowance). Furthermore, Gillard has adopted welfare to work policies, with a stricter points based system such as those attempting to get on the Disability Support Pension. The thing to keep in mind is that this welfare to work emphasis had the full backing of Tony Abbott.

Moreover, it is worth remembering that in 2004 when Mark Latham proposed even tougher welfare to work policies (than the Howard government had previously), this was rejected by the Australian electorate and by the Howard government. Now days both Gillard and Abbott are championing the axe being taken to welfare benefits in order to balance the budget.

My theory of the major political parties in Australia is that 100 per cent of the Liberal Party is directed to advancing the interests of big business. The Australian Labor Party is 50 per cent directed to advancing the interests of big business (as manifested by the Labor me tooism of 90 per cent of the Work Choices Act) and 50 per cent directed to the interests of unions.

Talking about being on welfare; a relative of mine was on Youth Allowance doing part time study and providing medical certificates exempting my relative from having to do part time work. My relative’s mom was a single parent who was on New Start Allowance. Cost of living was greater than the aggregate of their welfare benefits and as a result they would have been unable to afford rent. They were living on the North Shore. They would have been homeless, were it not for family charity.

But my relative was a very clever person and had learnt to use the welfare system and get on the Disability Support Pension and then get the relative's parent on the Carer Payment. Now their aggregate earnings from Centrelink are greater than cost of living. This would not have been possible were it not for the transformative power of education e.g. going to university.

Rank who is more conservative Julia Gillard, Tony Abbott, David Cameron, Ed Milliband, Nick Clegg, Adam Bandt or Barack Obama?
Who ever can rank these International Politicians has a very big future in Australian politics. PS this involves reading between the lines. Judge a politician by what they do not just by what they say.

Workers united will never be defeated. Tony Abbott and his plans for Work Choices Mark 2 will not be tolerated by the Australian public. Tony Abbott gets out of Australian politics; you are a right wing, hard core sexist and misogynist, anti refugee rights, xenophobic extremist. We have no time for boofheads like Tony Abbott. GO LABOR!

The news for the Australian Labor Party is grim. As an opinion pollster and market researcher for the ALP, I found out that in marginal + safe electorates throughout Australia, the 2 PP vote for the Coalition is 56 per cent to 44 per cent for Labor. The Labor Party is faced with a wipe out in Tasmania, Western Australia, Queensland and many electorates centred on Western Sydney. The Coalition is looking at a majority of 40 seats. I hear that the Australian Labor Party politicians are at the gin bottle along with the Australian PM. The Australian Labor Party has all but given up. When you look at the tally the ALP have been in power for nineteen years (1983-1996 plus 2007-2013) while the Coalition have been in power for eleven years ( 1996-2007). As an Australian Labor Party Assistant Market Researcher I know that Labor has its work cut out.

Lots of assumptions..

1. Workers united will never be defeated - of course that's how unions have managed to get super high wages for low productivity. Until 1997 the Maritime Union of Australia promoted workers to be one of the most unproductive in the world. Not sure where you getting the work choices thing from but Abbott has no plan to do it. Political suicide if he does and thankfully he's smarter than those from Labor.

2. Hard core sexist/ misogynistAnother lie.. , female chief of staff , female deputy. If he's a 'hard core sexist' why doesn't he get rid of both of them and replace with a male deputy and chief of staff?

3. Anti-refugee rights? Remind me who advocated for the Malaysian solution and wanted to strip refugees of their basic rights to a country that did not sign the refugee convention?

4. Extremists? Which party wants to deal the biggest body blow to the economy?(Carbon tax) Labor. Only the labor party can implement a tax that loses money.

5. We have no time for a Prime minister that has consistently broken her promises to the Australian people.

Broken promises:
- building of detention centres on army bases like RAAF Scherger
- carbon tax
- Sydney northwest rail link
- citizen assembly
- East Timor solution
- cash for clunkers
- surplus ( which the Labor party pre shortfall in revenue said they could achieve but that was based on shuffling treasury figures. So even cooking the books couldn't deliver them a surplus.)
- fixing the hospitals ( despite what you see on tv they have actually done nothing at all) e health records no one adopting.

So mate you can read between the lines all you want but at the end of the day the Australian people look at the facts.

I don't get how the carbon tax is both a 'huge blow' to business and not making money. Either it's making a fuckload of money and 'hurting' business, or it isn't. You can't have it both ways

Employing women to be subordinate to him is a sign that he's not a sexist?
Well considering your friends would be falling over themselves to call him misogynist if he didn't "employ women to be subordinate to him"...

The Lib's opposition to the Malaysia solution was politically motivated, saying the Liberals would be better than Labor in regards to refugee rights is stupid although sadly Labor is trying their best to be more and more like the libs with this issue.

I didn't say the Libs were better than labor but that it is hypocritical for those from labor to accuse Libs of being anti-refugees.

Seems you haven't read the policy in detail. The carbon tax package involves massive compensation in the form of tax cuts and handouts. With assistance to some industries but businesses that were left out will still face massive hits.

All of them assumptions besides from the public sector bit which I acknowledge is true. And as I have explained before labor are hiring more people in public relations to promote non-existent/half baked policy. Does not benefit the Australian people.

Pigs arse, he made Peta Credlin a story. Nobody has ever said boo about a politicians staff appointments until Abbott decide to make it the story.
Gillard brought the sexism issue in not Abbott.

The Malaysian Solution was a dud policy but Labor's Pacific Solution Mark 2 with the no advantage test is political brilliance. Que jumpers will be put back in the que under a Gillard government. Plus deterrence saves peoples lives coupled with the increased refugee intake. Gillard is subjecting work for the dole for refugees on Centrelink benefits. Gillard has invested enormously in skills and education. Refugees are getting up skilled and into the work force thanks to Gillard's though welfare to work policies. There will be no free loaders under a Gillard or Abbott government.

Isn't that the point of the carbon tax so that businesses that pollute heavily go bust or learn to inivate?

Tony Abbott is taking the axe to public sector jobs in order to fill his $11 billion budget black hole. This means less teachers, nurses and ADF personnel. God save Australia from the incompetent Tony Abbott.
