So right now I am doing 4unit and after so long of contemplating whether I should keep it I decided I’m just gonna stick it out and just gonna have to grind ig

But before I finalise my decision I would like to know whether I could achieve a comeback. So basically for 3 unit I sorta messed up on the test because I ran out of time and only got a 62% (higher then the average by a little and probably ranking in the top 50% of my class) and a 73% in 4u unit which put me. 3/4 in the class with the first guy being a definite e4 and i’m not really sure about the person who got 2/4. My school ranked in the top 75 for the Hsc (bottom end of this) however there was only one e4 in extension 1 and i believe the highest mark in 4u was an 81 (not totally sure though I think it may of been higher?).

Anyway I am wondering whether there is a chance for me to still e4 3unit and potential very high e3 4unit - low e4.

Btw in terms or cohort strength I believe my cohort is definitely a decent amount stronger then last cohort.

So is it possible? I just wanna know, because math is taking 4 units of my hsc so counts for a lot..

I aint qualified to answer but imo I think you defn can make the comeback becuz if ur school is ranked very highly so I'd assume ur tests are probs difficult so maybe 60 percent internal aint that bad y'know like u said u were in upper half so it must've been hard on everyone so you seem to be in good position. Then again i'm a 2026'er (so it's better u listen to someone more experienced + smarter my words aren't set in stone) but my immediate intuition to your situation is like : No reason why comeback should be impossible.

just my 2 cents

i think totally 100% you could get a comeback. like tbf your rank doesnt matter as much as your position away from the person who is rank 1, and you have 3 more assessments to make up for that which are likely of a higher weighting so i think for what you want like a comeback is deffo possible

I reckon i can definitely improve my rank on extension 1 significantly. I’m confident in my ability there I kinda just bombed the test a bit. For 4unit, I reckon I could get 2nd rank not sure about 1st as the 1st guy is a literal full sweat

You can check your school's past performance here easily: https://www.hscninja.com/atar-calculator
It is likely your school's performance would vary significantly from year to year. Ultimately your cohort's strength depends on what you make out of it !!

subject chart.png

For your reference on the scaling of your subjects even being in the middle (50th percentile or 87 HSC mark or around 60% raw mark for HSC exam) of maths extension 2 would give you a better scaled mark than the top 1% in Earth and environmental science (99th percentile/97 HSC Mark is around top 26th in around 2600 candidates in the state).
Or the bottom 25% percent in maths extension 2 gives a higher scaled mark than top 10% in Earth.
- that being said I am NOT forecasting any of your performance in your subjects it depends on your own situation

You should make your own choice if you want to keep it or not.
But if you do remember your cohort's strength depends on how well you perform.
Also besides the ranking the gaps between ranks does actually matter because the way moderation works:

Is it true thy a very little percentage of people band 6 earth? Because on the high end it doesn’t even seem to scale that bad.

Lets hope I can pull this off.. im thinking of keeping 12 units as a backup with Earth as it isn't too hard so it wouldn't take up too much of my time and would act as a backup incase i manage to bomb one of the math tests. Idk if this is a good idea though

I really just got to make a decision and stick to it.
