As a parent of students who attended local public, nonselective schools, I can confirm that any student who is ranked first in their school cohort for both the internal assessments and the HSC exam for a subject will receive their exam mark as their internal mark.

The main disadvantage of attending such schools is that teachers tend to pace lessons to cater for the slower members of the class and sometimes don’t adequately cover the whole syllabus in time, but this is less of an issue for self-directed learners because in this age of digital media and technology, there are plenty of resources to enable self directed learning.

regardless u wont state rank bc of ur school which is unfair
everyone knows the hsc isn't fair, and it never will be. nor will most things in life. not entirely groundbreaking that the person ranked 1st in a subject is not necessarily the most objectively knowledgeable or best student in that subject in a cohort of tens of thousands.
