    Whats so good about med?

QFT. And in that order, most of my friends in med bullsh*&ed a lot in the interview about helping people and things they've done in the community. Money and Prestige whether consciously or subconsciously is why.

Reflections of a 4th yr pharm student--pls read if you're considering pharm

I kind of figured this must be the case, the whole 'dispensing of medicines' being simplified to putting a sticker on a box + all the information and any additional questions the customer might ask being on the computer screen in front of you. This is the way I see it: - Swap to science...

Undergrad Med: Predicted UAI vs Real UAI

Your predicted UAI gets you a first round interview, however all offers released are based on your actual UAI + UMAT + interview score. Thus if for example your predicted UAI is 98 and you have a UMAT of say ~180 you may get an interview, however if your actual UAI then came out to be 96 you...

How do you get to the Rex Vowels theatre?

In a last minute move my clinical pharmacology final exam was moved foward a week and in to this theatre. I can see where it is on a map of campus, however I thought it was just the electrical engineering bulding there, is the Rex Vowels theatre within the electrical engineering building somewhere??

    HD Average

I'm 3rd year Med Sci with a weighted average mark of 83 (85+ is high distinction). I was in the top 15 in the course and made the interviews for the lateral transfer in to medicine (which I failed :( ). It is definately possibly, but be prepared for 3 years of dam hard work and dam little social...

    pharmacy bonus point

If you complete 2 years of science, doing physiology and pharmacology in your second year you can get exemption from a few subjects (apparently) at Usyd, however it will still take you 4 years to do their undergrad B.Pharm degree. So realistically if you havn't gotten the grades to get in to...

    sCALING

Your marks go through a 2 step process, although I wouldn't really call it 'scaling': 1st the department your subject is related to reviews the marks (E.g. depatment of pharmacology). This is more just to confirm that whoever marked the papers did so fairly and was not super mean or super nice...

    Pharmacy at USyd

I remember reading some where on Usyd's website that the entry level that they'll consider you for transfer into B.Pharm (undergrad) is 5.5 = A 50/50 of credits and distinctions in your prior course. If your UAI isn't up to scratch I'd definately be setting a GPA of 6 as the target.

    Argh.. what should I do?

What was the issue after your PhD, just really over research? Crappy pay? Long hours? I'm contemplating doing honors now just to 'fill the gap' next year, as the careers advisor basically told me I was fuct for getting a job as I havn't done any extra curricular activities lol! Canberra uni...

    READ ME: Science degree FAQs

RE: Ruffwoof 1. Yes that is generally how it works, in first year you will do a variety of generic science subjects such as chemistry, biology, maths and physics. Then in 2nd year you will do subjects more in your area of focus; and finally in 3rd year you will even more discretely...

    READ ME: Science degree FAQs

Don't worry, med sci isn't a complete waste of time, I just got an internship in the area of pharmacovigilance... My advice though is get your name out their as early as you can, don't leave it till after your degree to be trying to make contact with employers and institutes. NO ONE wants you...

    Argh.. what should I do?

It took 2 years but I've finally made up my mind that I want to be a pharmacist. I could've done so from the start (96.5 UAI), which is probably the most frustrating thing in this ordeal but never mind.. My position right now is- Final year Bachelor of Medical Science, with a WAM of 82.75 / GPA...

    Enzyme experiment for BABS1201

Enzyme kinetics based on structure and amino acid sequence I did a bit on in 2nd year molecular biology, but am only doing in detail now really in 3rd year molecular pharmacology (and apparently also in rationale drug design); and even now they assure me that these are just the fundamentals...

What was the point of the library upgrade?

Besides: A) Removing a tonne of computers, meaning I either have to que for an hour or hope there's not a class in the teaching labs in wallace wurth. B) Removing a tonne of desks, meaning I have to transverse up and down several stories till I can find somewhere to study. C) Recoloring the...

    Enzyme experiment for BABS1201

Is this hypothetical or will you actually be doing the experiments? If it's hypothetical you could do some research on protein crystalization and amplification techniques that are actually used to produce structural images of a protein on a molecular level. If you do have to do an experiment...

    Biomedical Science

Here's in a nutshell what I've basically concluded: - Australia does not have the market size for big pharma and other high tech companies to bother running their R&D out of, hence besides some small (and hugely struggling with the current economy) companies you will not find a research job in...

    enrty into medicine HELP!!!

Especially when you bust your ass for 2 years, achieve a WAM of 83, UMAT of 182, get offered an interview and then a month after get an email saying your acceptance in to the lateral transfer scheme was unsuccessful :( My advice- if you get an interview throw your honesty out the window for a...

    PHPH2101 Typical Lab Hours

not usually, I remember 1 or 2 of them did, mainly the ones to do with membrane potential and that annoying computer program. Some weeks will also be 'self study sessions' where you just have exercises you are expected to do in your own time.
