Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Well the reason that everyone is 'against you' as you put it is because it seems like you haven't taken the time to carefully think about what you're going to say, and so now you'll just have to deal with the consequences. If you weren't implying that it would be better if it wasn't her...

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

I don't either, but she would be a lot better off if she did have the abortion. Look, no-one here is saying that abortion is a good thing, but like I said before, it sometimes becomes a necessary evil that is needed to save someone's life and sanity.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Well then you should have said that in your original post. Next time, think before you post. It might save you from getting told off.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Not just that, her perception on relationships, wait, no, EVERYTHING would be massively screwed up. If she had an abortion, it would at least help relieve some of the stress.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Just ignore those fundies. I know for a fact that I got my cold from someone, not because me or someone else did something bad. And I'm sure that whoever I got that cold from, they didn't do anything wrong to get it, either.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Well viruses are just little bits of DNA and some other stuff that float around and give people SARS (or whatever else). I'm sure that no-one here needs a biblical explaination for that.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

So is this something like the Butterfly Effect? Someone does something evil, and then someone else has to suffer because of that? Well, there goes my faith in humanity.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Sickness comes from sin? I have a cold right now, but I don't think I got it from doing anything wrong... I'm pretty sure I got it from someone else. Unless my karma is finally coming back to haunt me.
  9. squeenie

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Yeah, I was referring more to the fundies. They know who they are.

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Okay, let me put it this way then. Faith all too often applies a 'one size fits all' solution to moral/ethical issues. You can't say that abortion is wrong no matter what because the Church does not support it. Sure, abortion is a bad thing, but sometimes it becomes a 'necessary evil', which is...

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Because when you rationalise, you actually stop to think about a situation, rather than just give a response based on faith, which often results in a blanket statement. The world isn't black and white, you know. There is no clear, dividing line between what is right and what is wrong. One ideal...

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Okay, so maybe intelligence was the wrong word to use. What de Chardin was trying to say is that sometimes, faith restricts us to one world view, and it makes us reluctant to accept any other view. But the statement "Faith is holding the intelligence to a certain world view" is rather...

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

I agree. Emotion often gets in the way of rationality. And I don't think we should be dragging religion into this either. As Pierre Teilhard de Chardin said "Faith is holding the intelligence to a certain world view" I don't know what you fundies have to say about it, but de Chardin is right...
  14. squeenie

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Uh... don't you think that's a contradiction? So wait, when someone gets murdered, they have to die because of someone else's sins...? In that case, the world is coming to an end! Oh snap! Everyone, take cover! I hate to tell you this, want2bdifferent, but you're really not doing yourself...

Which uni should I do science at?

Well the Group of Eight unis on my list are USYD, UNSW, Monash and University of Queensland. Sounds good... But MQ calls itself Australia's Innovative University... do you think that's true, or is it just shameless self promotion?
  16. squeenie

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

And what if someone was murdered? That's a cause of death too, right?
  17. squeenie

Raped by her uncle, but can she have an abortion?

Also, how do we even know that it was God's doing?
  18. squeenie

    Does God exist?

Woah... It's been a long while since I've looked at this thread. I think religion is trying to say to science "I reject your reality, and substitute my own!!" Well whatever floats your boat, religion. If you don't want to think rationally, then that's fine by us. Earlier in this thread...

Which uni should I do science at?

I've heard that Monash is a good place to do science research, so I'll look further into that. Also, USYD, UNSW and MQ are in the top 200 for some list of top unis... would that help in any way?
  20. squeenie

Which uni should I do science at?

Yep, I was thinking of doing a few postgrad years and then moving on to research. My main interests are chem or medicine. So I'll probably stay in Sydney. I have friends who go to each uni, so I can ask them about this, too. If I stay in Sydney, I'll have no problems with transport, and if I...
