Girl forced to change school beacouse of hair color!

If they're the school rules, and she knows that, then she's at fault. I'm not saying it's not frustrating, or whatever, but it's really not worth making an issue of. She doesn't have to stay at the school if she can't bear to change her hair colour. And if she really wants to stay at the school...

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

I think it has another element to it, rather than just meaning that the govt. shouldn't give the church money. Policies should not be made solely on the basis of an individual's religious objection to something, when it obviously conflicts with popular opinion. For example, 60% of Australians...

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

That's true, definitely. But there's still no denying that they do have a large proportion of conservative Christians within the party, which makes it hard to see America as having separation of church and state.

    them Sydney Trains moments

Re: them cityrail moments Been on that train a few times (I live in Newy, and I often go to visit my cousins in Syd, or my grandparents in the ACT, then get the bus from ACT to Syd, then train from Syd to Newy). It's always an interesting experience. Lol. He would've just turned 13 at...

I know how to fix the abo problem

I agree that the way to help is to remove the divide between white society and Aboriginals, but I think that removing welfare payments and nothing else is not the way to go. Before the payments are removed, they need to be educated and empowered, so that they can help themselves, and therefore...

    Parental expectations...

Yeah that was how it was for me. I put way more pressure on myself academically than my parents did. They just pressured me in other ways. Lol.

    Parental expectations...

Some expectations of parents are obviously important in helping you make the right decisions. I know my parents would also try their best to help me if I started hanging with 'the wrong people'.

    them Sydney Trains moments

Re: them cityrail moments Younger bro and I were on the train from Sydney to Newy, and there were some people sitting in seats across the aisle from us who, from what I could tell, were talking about bondage and selling marijuana. I didn't really mind, was just listening to my MP3 and working...

    Parental expectations...

I know! They also never let her go out to parties and stuff - ever. I invited her to my 18th, and she said she hadn't even bothered asking her parents whether she could go, because she knew they'd say no.

    Parental expectations...

I have a friend whose parents are from Bangladesh. They have really high expectations of all their 4 kids, not only with school, but for other things. Like she didn't come to the formal because her parents wanted her to wear a certain thing, which she didn't like, but going was conditional - she...

    Parental expectations...

Just wondering who here is expected to go into a certain field by their parents, either because everyone in their family has done it before, or because they just feel that it would be the best thing for a career? I'm lucky. My parents take the 'Whatever makes you happy' line, mostly. The...

Republic of Australia - Yay or Nay?

Also agreed with this. However, there's the question of another Whitlam situation. What if that happened?

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

Agreed with this. The more I read about the situation in America, the luckier I feel to live here. The religious right has an amazing amount of power over there. That said, I also agree that we could, and should, do better. Rise of the Religious Right in the Republican Party

    The World of Pick-Up Line

I love this one 'If I were an enzyme, I'd be DNA helicase so I could unzip your genes...' Lol.

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

Agreed with this. I mean, although we're secular in name, in practice, religious groups still have far too much influence in some areas.

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

Yeah, well it's about all separation of Church and State. But...hmm, that's an interesting point. I think they should if the people vote for it. But not without consent from the populous.

Separation of Church and State...too much, too little, or just right?

Ok, well, I've been thinking about this lately. Despite the fact that we're supposedly a secular nation, the Church still has quite a bit of sway when it comes to legislation, if not directly, indirectly, through the religious beliefs of the politicians who make them. So, in your opinion, is...

    Coming out stories...

Yes, I'm a girl. Tulipa's sig was referring to someone else (her friend). I just thought it was funny. So did Iron. When I first started posting, I found it amusing that he thought I was a gay guy. Yeah, that's my name. Except it's Bryony. Sorry for the confusion everyone. But I've...
