How hard is eng ext 2??

It's not mind bogglingly hard. IMHO the key is picking a good idea in the beginning and then running with it through to the finish. I have friends who got shredded because they didn't develop a solid plan from the get go, changed their mind four times and ended up frantically trying to bullshit...

    How many units is best????

Anything up to like 13 units is manageable. I would never go 10 units even if I was confident in all of them because I wouldn't want to risk a freakish flameout of epic proportions in an exam (it does happen -- eg walking out of the HSC exam for one's favourite subject without writing a single...

    Lecturer Quotes

From a law seminar: "Has anyone here used cannabis? You can put your hands up, I promise I'm not recording answers."

First year at uni and hate it!

I'm not so much hating uni as just a bit ... underwhelmed by the whole thing. The whole agony of HSC aside I'm not sure whether I like it more than year 12 ... but then again, I thought year 12 was pretty fantastic when I could forget about exams. The extra free time this year is good, but not...

    I can't feel my ass.

I went with the "Hi, I'm Lauren, can I sit here?" approach today and it went very well. Just had to bite back the fear they'd be like "No, get lost noob". But I was so tired when I got out at 4pm. I haven't done any work at all since November, even paying attention to one person for an hour...

The most nerve racking part about starting uni is..

Ohhh ouch. You win. Got plans?

The most nerve racking part about starting uni is..

Some of my older friends are saying the same thing and I'm like gee, thanks for the reassurance. Because I am usually the last one to the party on the whole "making new friends" thing. Eg yesterday, I was gonna go to the arts mentoring day but got stuck in the timetabling line for two and a half...

    best movie endings?

Another vote for Memento (holy shit, good ending), The Departed, Se7en and Fight Club. Except I'd extend "the end" of Fight Club to be like the last third of the movie because of what might be the least secret and yet most awesome twist ever. Also: Inglourious Basterds for the sheer "fuck...

    Terrigal 2010 anyone?

Ahahahahaha no. Sirens is dead. Every weekend it's crawling with bouncers but there's only like three people out on the balcony. It is also the biggest dump going around. But across the street you've got the Beery (pub) and Lilikoi (club) inside that. It gets fairly packed on decent...

    Semester 1 Timetables (2010)

Will probably have to, but a bit devo that I'm going to have to postpone the unit cos I want to do it now. Hopefully it's just that one issue and the rest is okay.

    Dexter

It's fantastic. You so should. But I had read the first book before seeing the series, so S1 did not surprise me (was still awesome though). S2 is my favourite, I think, but it's tough to pick from such a good bunch.

    Semester 1 Timetables (2010)

Difficult clashes. I hate life. 95% certain it's the gods of university screwing me over cos I flipped a coin for my semester 1 GOVT unit. Must have picked the wrong one.

    Appalled at Channel 9

It's like 7 and 9 are trying to outdo each other in the failstakes. Ch7's coverage of the Australian Open went to the dogs this year and now Ch9 are jumping on the "screw the viewer" bandwagon ...

PIP - Heterosexism & Heterosexual Privilege in the Media

Done. Great topic, by the way, and I enjoyed doing the survey.

    lol hsc

I reckon you want to be getting higher than top 25 percentile in at least a few subjects at a 150-ish ranked school for 90+ATAR. Can anyone confirm this? And you might be doing only 1 hour a night now, in like the first two weeks of term but that's going to have to increase as half yearlies etc...

    Food for thought..

I was dux at my school and my family is not very well off at all. As in, the only way I was able to get into the school in the first place was from an academic scholarship.

is ur atar enough for usyd merit scholarship?

Slightly late reply here, but I was on the reserve list for an entry scholarship (5th, to be specific), and I got an offer letter today. So if there's anyone out there fairly high up on the reserve list, there appears to be movement on that front.

confused as to how to answer "Understanding nourishes belonging..."

I did this question last year and my approach was more akin to the first option. It makes for a more focused essay IMHO. Remember not to ignore the "lack of understanding" part of the question though. My thesis was about self-understanding and being able to recognise/understand similarities...
