2012 Semester 2 UNSW Chatter Thread

Why was it unpaid? I thought internships at the Big 4 were paid? I can understand turning down an unpaid internship if you need to work a paid job to support yourself day to day financially, but you don't work do you?

    Engineering At Macquarie Uni

I don't know it personally, but at the end of the day you would obtain the same nationally recognised qualification whether you do the degree at Macquarie, UWS or UNSW etc.

    Israel Affirmative Action in Gaza

http://www.dailytelegraph.com.au/news/a-fifteen-second-race-for-life/story-e6freuy9-1226517053616 I feel sorry for the people living in Sderot. 15 seconds to stop your vehicle and try to find a shelter is nothing. Even if you had a shelter under your house, 15 seconds to get down into it is...

It really does depend on the degree. Engineering, a D avg is decent. In arts though, well...

    All-Asian Mall

Everything about that statement goes against the Chinese culture/pride though (I do agree it would be the smart thing to do however). No. Diversity is good. If you have a few Sydney suburbs that is 90% Chinese, then they are not diverse and that is bad. It would be better that all Australian...

Yes, but I don't want to be the next Hitler. No, thanks. The strength of China is 1) its population and 2) its economy. The sheer number of its citizens are a danger, especially once they spread more globally and infiltrate other countries (yet are still for the most part aligned with China...

    All-Asian Mall

Of course China is good for Australia's economy currently. In a military/strategic situation though, Australia is never going to side with China over the US. Immigration 50 years ago was great and at a good level. Each suburb got a Greek restaurant, a Chinese restaurant, an Italian...

    All-Asian Mall

I know (Cabramatta more specifically). Yes, it is a bit of a problem, but the rate of growth for Vietnamese living in Australia is minimal/not a big issue. Whereas for China on the other hand... It seems stupid, but if you are not Vietnamese you are treated differently in the Vietnamese...

    All-Asian Mall

I don't agree with that. Lets assume you are correct however, and that the US can nuke most of mainland China so it is not a threat. The question then is what about the 4 million Chinese background people living in the US? I can't imagine they would be too happy about it. With them being on home...

    All-Asian Mall

This is what some Sydney suburbs are becoming. Can't speak Chinese (i.e. Mandarin/Cantonese)? Then that rules out several suburbs that you can live/work/shop in. That is not acceptable in Australia.

Iran is nothing compared to China. If the Western world allies (USA, UK, Britain, Australia, France, Germany, Canada etc; possible Russia) needed too it could easily neutralise Iran. The same cannot be said for China.

    All-Asian Mall

I'm serious. The greatest threat to Australia is not Iran/Middle East/North Korea/other rouge states, it is China. When you have a large number of people residing in Australia, failing to assimilate and maintaining a traditional Chinese lifestyle, then it begs the question, that when Australia...
