Tim Winton has a great concise way of writing that really appeals when I want to read a short book but get a lot out of it. I think he is the most effective writer in terms of words - per story conveyed. So for the moment I say him. (Ironically in a long winded way).

Agreed with all above. No point in wearing make up. It's the beach - not a nightclub so be natural and at one with the water and sand.
