    The, "Who hasn't studied" Thread

*raises both hands* i hated crime fiction. Well... i hated how we have to talk about eberything in a text in so little time. stupid CF. anyway. I have two spare units, so im planning on failing. That, and i've got latin, SORII, and art next week. eugh. i just don't get it.

    Book Characters

Oh hell. Hard questions. Ummmmm... If i could be any character i wanted to be i would be... Karla, from Anne Bishop's "Black Jewels" trilogy. Sarcastic, brash, snippy, loud and... yeah. Me with more confidence and better fashion sense :) as for who i'm like... Can i just say Karla again...

latin - how do you study?

I find it's too much memorising to know the latin off by heart... I learnt the story line and use the latin to help in translation. I used to memorise it all, for year 10 and what not, when the content in the exams was more managable... now i just hope *laughs* One thing: Know your vocab...

    The Literary Acquisition Thread

^ good read. Not a great fan of his style, but his ideas are cool. I just got Ravens Gate, by Anthiny Horowitz. heh.

    comic books?

I liked Gaiman's Sandman- it was cool... Well, i actually loved and ended up buying the childrens book... it's basically all seven of them in chibi form, kinda. Centered around Delirium. So very cute. I did, however, like 1602 better. It's basically Gaman's interpretation of a few Marvel...

What's the most popular genre people are writing in?

Well, fantasy with the 'gay' subtext... *thinks* Lynn Flewellings "Nightrunner" series, for a start. Gorgeous, stock standard fantasy. Love them :) Um... I believe Mercedes Lackey is another author who dabbled with the idea. I'm not sure of the title, though. Google it ;) Oh. Not a published...

    School?

Schools can refuse to let a student sit the HSC at their school... if a student between now and the HSC simply didn't show up, then i guess they could be expelled, if the school wanted to. But that wouldn't stop someone from just sitting it at another school. I'd check to amke sure the 200 hrs...

    Boarding school?

Sorry didn't check this earlier. xadrienne, i go to loreto normanhurst *grins* Loreto kirribilli isn't a boarding school anymore... they last boarded, oh, ages ago. One of the old buildings died when a hot water boiler blew up, and rather than rebuild they demolished and got rid of boarding. I...

    Everything Science Fiction

I tend to stick with my fantasy, but a mention of altered Carbon was too much to resist... I love that book. And i have to add, like fantasy, sci-fi is good in that it both enables people to look at aspects of their own society, and it hypothesises on the possible ramifications of that society...

    not started..?

*shrugs* it's 8000 words. Honestly, not that much. It's entirely possible to sit down and write 8k in a night. Print it, give a copy to someone to check, and do your own edit. Next day, edit the story. Hand it to a teacher or whatever. Third day, edit again. People work differently. I find...

What's the most popular genre people are writing in?

Magical realism, wot. I agree though- writing what you want, what interests you, is better than setting out to be postmod/ fantasy/ whatever. Postmodern as a genre annoys me, i think.

    Graphic Design For Major Artwork

I'd have love to do graphic design. But the school's programs kinda suck :( Anyway, i don't know what you've been doing, but have you looked at albumn covers, tried mimicing or subverting those? Or even crowd scenes. And the 'gangsta' stereotype *grins* Are you looking at australian hip hop or...
