    Careers with Advanced Science?

Yeah it's too early to worry about jobs. Just do what you are interested in. Science graduates are in high demand in "non-conventional" industries such as management consulting, because our research and problem solving skills are far more superior. If you do maths/stats and/or physics, you may...

    New Masters of Financial Mathematics

The two maths departments have very different research directions and strengths, so it's rather difficult to compare. There will be a lot of complementary sharing of honours courses between the two in the near future, so the qualities are really very similar.

How do u become a tutor?

It depends on the individual schools. In IT a good 3rd year student can get a tutoring job, whereas in many other subject areas you need to be doing at least honours.

    Advanced Science or Advanced Mathematics?

BSc (Adv Maths) is merely a marketing device to attract more ppl into maths. They could have easily introduced BSc (Adv Biology) or BSc (Adv Bludging) or whatever else they wanna promote. BSc (Adv) is more flexible, in case you wanna dump maths and major in a related subject area (e.g. physics)...

    science major

That's exactly right. A significant portion of maths/physics grads get into the finance area. An honours year is probably preferable if you wanna get into quant roles.

    science major

Hehe that's a bit overly pessimistic. A pass degree in science, although isn't much, is at least marginally better than an arts degree and the like. And seeing that most ppl do not go onto honours, presumably most of them will have landed a job somewhere. Whether they are the sort of quality you...

    Finance and Maths

Hehe good one §eraphim :) Also add BComm(Finance)/BSc(Financial Maths) at USyd. Finance will give you the knowledge about the markets, whereas maths equips you with the technical knowhows. There should be a program of similar structure at UNSW. Jobs you will get out of all these? Sample a few...

    science major

I don't think physics is that bad. Physics grads stay at uni because they want to, not because they can't find jobs outside. Their credentials (modelling skills etc) aren't too much different from applied maths ppl, and probably more hands on. The physics department has got more money, btw...

Tutorial vs Seminar - Whats the difference?

Tutorial is a tutorial ... seminar can be a mini lecture with some more interaction perhaps.

    Semester II Exam Results (2005)

There is an idiot here who's proud of himself  not going to argue about this, not worth it.

    Prize winner notification?

For maths I think they hold a prize ceremony in April/May.

    Semester II Exam Results (2005)

hehe maybe. but I heard that this guy got an IMO gold representing a southeast asian country, not australia. can't remember his name though.

    Semester II Exam Results (2005)

Haha if I am not mistaken there is someone else carrying an IMO gold medal besides these two legends. He just finished 2nd year. Not too sure what Peter and Stewart got in 1st year, but I heard that Stewart got a string of 100's under his belt in 4th year

    Semester II Exam Results (2005)

Wow that's just insane  The last time I saw such results, they were produced by an IMO gold medalist. What sort of maths are you interested in? Hell yeah that's pretty low by laurie's standards :)

University of Sydney Information Day 2006

Nah no doughnuts. It'll more likely be little sandwiches, they are tasty :) they won't mind if you take one or two guests with you.

    commerce and science

No I didn't. I turned up in the first few weeks, the lectures were too boring to keep me there every Wed 5-7pm. Basically there was no one qualified and willing to teach the course, so they had to ask a retired applied maths prof (specialised in electromagnetism not math finance)to take the...

Official World Cup Draw Live Discussion

There seems to be a Europe vs Brazil line hiden in the draw. Assuming Brazil wins Group F, they'll take on the runnerup (Italy or Czech) of Group E. If through, Spain (probably) will be awaiting in the quarter final. Then possibly another European team (e.g. England, Portugal, Holland) in the...

Official World Cup Draw Live Discussion

Australia is in the third hardest group I think: Brazil, Australia, Croatia, Japan. All depends on the legendary Guus now.

Official World Cup Draw Live Discussion

A second group of DEATH: Italy, Ghana, USA, Czeth Republic. Not as deadly as the first though.
