    General Thoughts: Physics

Too many marks for an analysis and description question in Astro (6 marks) It was fine overall though. It wasn't the randomness of 2008 Astro.

    General Thoughts: Physics

... When they say question, they mean a WHOLE question. Not a part of a question. a) is not a question. The section is out of 25. You can't do 5 2 markers..... If you do multiple questions like deswa1 said, they will take your best QUESTION. If you get 5 in one but 2 in another, the max you get...

    General Thoughts: Physics

Seriously. I don't know if you guys are trolling or not anymore.... If you collected the question booklet it states: Attempt ONE Question from Questions 31-35. Meaning you have a choice of one of those 5 questions. Like I said. If you were an excellent student, and got like 95 doing one option...

    General Thoughts: Physics

Hmm what do you mean? You only get marks from one module in the option topic. In the case you did two you only get the marks for your best option. They do not add otherwise there will be people who do multiple option topics and get over 100% (not a good look for the board.)

    General Thoughts: Physics

Nah it was B. It lost 8Kv (508 kV to 500kV) and the wire had 40 ohms of resistance. P = IV , V=IR therefore P = V^2 /R = 8000^2 /40 = 1.6 MW Remember the voltage is the voltage loss not the whole voltage. Dont know how you got your answer... I subbed your value into P= IV and P= I^2R and still...

    General Thoughts: Physics

Actually it was B. You look at the diagram and work out the power loss for each transmission. A lost 20MW B lost 1.3MW and C lost 3MW(they gave you power needed to keep the line at superconducting temps per km) And it actually length contracted to 39.8 or somewhere around there. The empty...

    General Thoughts: Engineering Studies

Not really. All the formulas are given to you on a formula sheet. Its the application of the formulas which take some time to understand.

Sorry to say this but that assumes that the truck moves at 60km/h the whole time. Stopping means decelerating to 0 I believe we got force of brakes above. Fs= 0.5mv^2 s= 0.5mv^2 /F answer was around 45ish metres. My memory is a bit dodgey.

Yes it was 9 kN under compression. Truss was pushing out.

    General Thoughts: Engineering Studies

Moments can only find the vertical components. To find the NET force on a pin joint you need to consider forces horizontal and vertical. Don't have to worry about this on a roller as there is only force perpendicular to the plane its on. What I did was use moments to find reaction at the...

    General Thoughts: Engineering Studies

Wasnt the resultant 22 kN? 17.3 was only the force vertically at the reaction. There was a horizontal force of 14 kN as well. Net force was 22kN Direction was correct though.

I see what you mean now. Wished teacher taught us that but its only one mark. AS 1100 standards are none existent on the internet.....

    General Thoughts: Engineering Studies

LOL yeah... Made no sense at all... got like 94-95 m/s which is approx 340km/h Then in the next question the bus is going 60km/h .....

Coil and the variable capacitor are used to tune the frequency of the receiver. The rest was demodulation circuitry. Never knew I had to did out Year 9 and 10 electronics for an Engineering exam. Almost did do this question. Was so happen finishing my sketch that I skipped it. I was double...

    General Thoughts: Engineering Studies

Yes it was A for 8 10 is D. You need to factor in the normal reaction which P adds to the block, giving it extra fiction. Missed it first time round and wondered why my answer didnt match. 2 and a half hours later redid it accounting for P adding a bit into the normal reaction, getting exactly D

    SOLUTIONS - Terry Lee

Thats correct as the height of the rectangle is the y value of the circle at each value of x. dx is so small there is no difference if its "sloped" as exaggerated in the diagram if thats what you are trying to say.

Opps The extension system slipped in my mind for that moment. E4 is what I meant which is 90% anyways. Same as a band 6
