Sum and Product of Roots Help!
Use the definition of absolute values, so you would get |α - β|= sqrt ((α-β)^2) and you should be able to do it from there.

2011 HSC Past Paper Question
From part i) you can replace the u with an x and since they are both equal you can add them and you'll get 2I = 1/x(4-x) and integrate that as normal.
