crash - by "newly qualififed actuary" i think they are referring to FIAA? i doubt that a graduate from uni would hav an expected pay packet of $100k for his/her first year in the job..
actuarial studies is maths based, but its more about a lateral sort of thinking rather than hardcore maths.
once you get into the workforce, being an actuary isnt just all about sitting there and doing hard formulas.
my cousin is an actuary, and the most ive seen her do is like punch some...
nah its not so bad..
when it starts getting hard...thats when i start dozing off anyway =)

2nd year may be the toughest year comparatively, but 3rd year is where the real actuarial work starts. im assuming thsi cos we havent done any thing in 1st-2nd year yet..all that is theoretical too..nothing i've learned so far except a few basics in acst151 has shown up in the work...
