    thanks iron wjx~~ I thought they are different because one is (0<=θ<2 pi)and the other is (-pi < θ<= pi) but really they are the same, I checked some other books and find out all sorts of domains ...

    substitution+integrate by parts 2*SUM{ln[(x^2-4)^0.5]/[(x^2-4)]}dx=2*SUM f(x)*f(x)' dx where f(x)=ln[(x^2-4)^0.5] then use integrating by parts let u=ln[(x^2-4)^0.5]
