Hi, as most of you know, i'm an academic at heart and my dream is an LLM at a golden triangle school in the UK, then, to join the academic bar, or, just academia/public service doing research and teaching. Most of my friends want to be lawyers... but the whole Articles and Seasonal...

LLM in England - wanted London, got London, but Oxford keeps whispering

Probably international IP law - copyright. The course structure in England are coursework subjects following by a research thesis. The LLM by research as we have here is known as a MPhil but it is 2 years.

LLM in England - wanted London, got London, but Oxford keeps whispering

I know costs are restrictive! There are heaps and heaps of scholarships out there and, thankfully, one came through. I will still be out of pocket though....

Hi everyone, Since second year, it has been my dream to study for an LLM in London. It has always been London. I want to be an academic or work in the Commonwealth public service. I recently graduated with a first in law, am published, seasonals etc etc. So I started applying only to the...

    Profession or just another business?

Hey ~ Obviously the save the world desire was in high school. I'm in final year and am much more realistic about a career but sometimes I do ask myself if I would be happy in a big corporate firm. I always ask myself if it pays beyond the great money - does it offer more than just good pay...

    Profession or just another business?

When I enetered law I expected to make money AND contribute to society. Now it seems that lawyers at commercial firms are no better than accountants! Work, get paid, go home, eat, sleep, do it again. There seems to be no meaning in a lawyers work beyond money. Its like i'm seeing lawyers in the...

    Law school leeches

Hey, There are these guys at school, every time there is a take home exam or essay I can always count on at least one of them to give me a call (out of the blue) practically hours before the assessment is due and ask me to e-mail my answers to them. They say they'll change it around so...

Why do some law firms want to see VCE/HSC results?

Yeah, thats what I thought. When I saw to include VCE results I paused ... Only thing I can think of is that it may be a reason to only hire graduates from the top uni's or maybe keep in touch with that old boys club tradition (to see what high school you went to)...

What to do after a mid-year graduation and where to do masters

Why do some law firms want to see VCE/HSC results?

What's the point? Why do some law firms want to see VCE/HSC results for a law graduate? I'm worried because I can't really remember year 12... :) Seriously though, does anyone know? To see how smart you are or something like that?

What to do after a mid-year graduation and where to do masters

What to do after a mid-year graduation Hey, Will probably graduate mid 2007 rather than end of 2006. Does anyone know anything productive I can do until I start articles or leo cussen or PLP in 2008? I've been looking over the subjects I need to graduate and I have 10 left after this...

    Farewell McHugh

Great judge! But, honestly, i'd like to see a change. His judgements were very black letter and were seldom creative (then again, I think a conservative judge is good for clear application and consistency). It would be nice to read a judgement on par with a great thinker like Kirby J though...

    i dont get it....

Okay, as you say the guy has some sort of impairment. His perseverance despite the perceived inaccessability of law school should be admired. There are a range of disabilities that cause dreadful psychological impairment and reduced mental functioning - good on him for trying. Maybe, rather than...

    i dont get it....

To be honest, it does seem like a dumb question. Maybe he was just trying to have a laugh or something. How are you enjoying your time at Vic Uni?

    Where are you going?

hey. I noticed the thread below and though it would be interesting to see where everyone see's themselves in 5 -10 years. Do you see yourself as a private practice lawyer at a top tier firm? Do you think you'd like the lifestyle etc? Indicate where YOU would like to be not where you think...

    Employment Opportunities for Law

A law degree is also a generalist degree - some people think moreso than arts while also providing with more solid career options. I have read afew times that a law degree provides various job opportunities, and, law graduates have the widest choice of careers. You should not confine...

Getting published: an edge or common practice?

Thanks for the replies. No, I mean that i'm already publsihed in a law review so would this be something to include on my cover letter and highlight or is it common at your bigger uni's? Are any of you familiar with bond law review?

Getting published: an edge or common practice?

Hey. I'm new on this forum and like to ask a question i've been pondering. I'm in Vic Uni law. I know i'll have a hard time competing against all you brains from the G8 uni's (USyd, Melb, Monash, UNSW, U Qld etc). So, would getting a refereed article published as an undergrad in a law...
