I realise there are stickies, but I though we'd start a 2005 one because the other ones are bit old and we should just have something from the recent 2004/2005 students

For all the students out there, how do you go so well?

I studied all of the topics, about a week prior the exam, I went over everything, simply by using macquarie BS and my notes.
I structured it through topic/sub dot point and answered it, doing business management and change, employment relations and a little bit of financial marketing

i covered everything, and on the day before, i did a few mind maps, of some key points, yet i got my exam back and i skimmed 50%, people who didnt study beat me

i answered questions wrongly!? I dont know what the fuck, I misinterpret questions, example it asks to outline the leadership styles, but i start talking about management as LMC (in behavioural), but when I had a look at he answer of that question, I knew what the answer said, its not like "oh yeh, thats it"- i actually realised "yeh i know what autocratic and democratic is"

its like a got a ball of information but I didnt use it right, i didnt know whats what, and i lost HEAPS of marks for that, i got total zero, i made this same stupid mistake for organisational structure, i cant answer the questions right

i dont know what the fuck to do! seriously! sorry if im very unclear but im really angry at my result after all tha study, I dont care what methods it takes, im willing to take htem if it means a high result, i need high 80s to avoid the bad scaling
the only positive is that i beat alot of people in the report bit (they didnt even really pass, i got 12/20)- but i did do a few prac ones with my teacher, i know exactly what i did wrong for the report too

any idea's as what i should do? i can easily get out of it and drop it, im doing 12 units, or i can AGAIN try, i mean my last result was promising, i got 50% again for the Yr11 yearly, i got 70% for my yr11 BRT, and 50% for my yr11 half yearly

its like im plagued with that number, any pointers you guys got would be greatly appreciated :( im going tommorow to have a LONG LONG talk with my teachers to help me go better

I'm in the same position as casmira. I studied hard, missed out on my cousin's 21st party yet I didn't get the results I wanted. I think your brother is correct, just do more practice questions because most of questions are asking us to analyse a situation and then write out some solutions, report or plan. Not just based on our knowledge of things. If you practice more then you can somehow implement that knowledge with your answer. In the textbook (such as maq even thought it's an excellent revision book) it doesn't really give a scene in the notes and then it writes the solution. It only give us general stuff. That's why there are HSC extended revision questions at the end of each chapter. We have to use the knowledge and twist it around to suit the question. Pretty much like an english essay question. Except I can't seem to do the same for business :p

this is wat i do

i had the exact same prob in my prelim corse.
heres the thing i do to help me with bs:
1st i revise that nite, on wat we in class coz it helps me remember everythin, n u dnt have 2 study as much b4 the exam coz u no all the material
then i get my teacher 2 give me practice questions, like the ones that will b in the exam. then hand them in2 my teach so he can tell me how im answerin the qu. rong.
so basically i just keep practicin!
it really helps me, hope it will help u 2!

yeah as other people have said, use they syllabus document as your headings, and write notes from your class notes and textbook under these headings
then as u get closer to the exam, resummarise and resummarise these notes again and again till you know it all back to front, and its just a bare skeleton of dot points

get hold of as many past papers, trial papers etc (from board of studies and all the providers of the trial papers) and just go trhough all of these (and instead of just chosing an essay/report to write, write every single one)
you should be majorly set if you do all this, business studies is EASY to ace. if i had myt ime over, and wasnt so lazy, i would have done this. however, because i was lazy, i ended up going from the top of the class in year 11 and start of yr 12 to only getting 83 for business studies in the hsc. i coulda done way better. so pull ur finger out and go better than me!

oh and another thing, dont rely on your study guide to make notes and to study. theyre not that great.

and stick notes up on ur bedroom wall of all the lists of things u need to know like stakeholders, financial ratios, cycles, etc etc

I write up summarised notes, and learn them. Then I go and APPLY all that knowledge by doing answers to questions from textbooks, past papers, handouts from teachers etc. It's all very well to learn your notes - but that's only half of what you need to do. You have to apply them to a range of questions, so you're not stumped and you don't misread questions when you get into the exam.

but like i said in my initial post, i did 3 practise reports & got the teacher too mark them! so maybe there is hope
