With thousands upon thousands of students doing the same text year after year, isn't there a 100% chance that at least two people will use the EXACT same quotes for an essay?

Out of curiosity, what would happen? Would they get picked up for plagiarising? If so I'd assume this would be a hot issue.

lol this is like your fourth thread on plagiarism. If your that concerned just write your own lol.

All i know is 600 kids do get caught each year (but, this may be very minor compared to total students).

You got me!

English is the subject I'm most unfamiliar with and it's so hard to tell what counts as plagiarism! I might even be going too far with how I define it.

E.g. for 1984 I thought a thesis saying totalitarian control leads to suppression might be plagiarism. BUT THAT'S THE MESSAGE OF THE STORY. That's why someone has written about it before you and that's why it surely can't be plagiarism.

Having multiple students using the same quotes within their essays is not subject to plagiarism. This is because quotes themselves are not subject to plagiarism. They represent material that you are meant to effectively incorporate in your responses, should your aim be to perform well in your exams. It would therefore be normal for the same quotes to appear in multiple essays. This is similar to maths and science subjects, where students who correctly answer a question will likely have written similar (if not the same things) as working out in response to the question.

Additionally, even having the same analytical basis for the quotes that appear in different essays may not constitute plagiarism. Plagiarism is suspected and detected when a significant percentage of your response (including both quotes and analysis) is written in exactly the same way as one or more responses from other students (which also implies following an identical order/sequence).

Since you completed Business Studies, consider Section IV, for which you are required to incorporate relevant case study material to support your major points (and therefore provide a good quality response). There will likely be instances of students using the same case studies (a normal occurrence), which also suggests that this doesn't constitute plagiarism, as with the case of English.

I hope this helps! :D

On a side note I just want to say I've seen you posting on a lot of threads and I'd just like to acknowledge all the insane effort you put into each and every reply! Even though you've already finished HSC you still give your time and valuable wisdom to the next generation of students which is really inspiring to see.

Keep up the amazing work mate :D
