i heard this syllabus point is very important and last year HSC had 7mark based question on this point.. so i wanna know more but it's hard -_-;;

-analyse information from secondary sources to summarise the industrial origins of sulfur dioxide and oxides of nitrogen and evaluate reasons for concern about their release into the environment?
our school gave us bit of info.. but teacher say it's not enuff-_-
can you guys help me please

HI(aq)+NaOH(aq) -> ?
HI(aq)+ZnO(s) -> ?
HI(aq)+NH3(aq) -> ?

lots of info on the main site... dig up any summary (look for the one done by tennile or withoutaface... i think their summaries are rather extensive)

but to summarise, why are they bad - acid rain (then of course, you need to explain why acid rain is bad) and photochemical smog (for NOx)

for a/b reaction:

HI + NaOH <---> NaI + H2O
2HI + ZnO <----> Zn I2 + H2O
HI + NH3 <-----> NH4 I (aq)

HI is the acid here... so just think how would acid react with base... and voila...
