How does Ancient generaly scale? Up or down.
Scaling is not as simple as that. It depends on what you get. The higher mark you get (i.e. aligned mark), the higher scaled mark it usually is.

In the most recent one (I am talking about 2007 HSC), the scaling was quite poor for Ancient History.

HSC (aligned mark)36.4/7.2/50.0/48.5/45.0/42.0/37.0/31.5
Scaled mark 25.0/10.6/49.7/45.7/38.9/33.2/25.2/17.0

average/standard deviation/top mark/1% percentile/10%/25%/50%/75%

From here, you can see that the top rank in AH got 100% as his/her HSC but this mark was lowered down to 49.7/50 = 99.4/100 SCALED MARK.
