okay, im going thorugh the textbook (jacaranda) and im wondering if we have to know the applications of semiconductors- photovoltaic cells.

because the syllabus my teacher gave me had nothing on this point, but when i checked the syllabus in board of studies, they had a dot point on it -
identify data sources, gather, process and present information to summarise the effect of light on semiconductors in solar cells (in the third dotpoint section).

so a little confused, does anyone know whether we have to know this section?

im sure they will ask you in a 2 mark question or a multiple choice question on this to see whether youve done some research and have some understanding of it.

Based on the past HSC question. They expect you to be aware of the p-n semiconductor junction. Be aware this causes a depletion zone and produces an electric field. Light shines through to the depletion zone to release photo-electrons analgous to the photoelectric effect. The electric field then causes the released electrons to be transferred due to the electric field.
