depends on what you're better at. But you need mid-high 90's for 6 units (top 10-15%) and low 90's for 4 units (top 25%)

Not sure about ranks.
But based on 2011 statistics, the marks you would need are:
94 for English Advanced
96 for 2 unit Maths
47/50 for Extension 1 Maths
93 for Physics
93 for Chemistry
94 for Economics

The unrounded version of these marks all scaled to 45.6 for the purpose of calculating your aggregate and hence your ATAR, and 456 aggregate was the cut-off for an ATAR of 99.5.
Of course, you can perform worse in one subject if you compensate by doing better in another. And of course you have the luxury of dropping one unit.

The percentage of the state who achieved these marks in 2011 were:
Advanced English 4%
2 Unit Maths 3%
Ext 1 Maths 17%
Physics 4%
Chemistry 2%
Economics 3%

You could probably ask each of your teachers to give you an idea of how many people at your school generally get each of those marks in their subject.

94 for English Advanced
96 for 2 unit Maths
47/50 for Extension 1 Maths
93 for Physics
93 for Chemistry
94 for Economics
Based on this, I would say these are the ranks based on my school (of almost equal rank):
4/48 for English Advanced
4/68 for 2 unit Maths
10/44 for Extension 1 Maths
1/15 for Physics
2/23 for Chemistry
2/26 for Economics
