Arabic media Watch Centre in Australia. (4 Viewers)

This idea was established by the 'Al-hayat' Arabic Newspaper managing director Mr. Omar Al-shadi. The purpose of this idea is to basically establish a media watch centre for the Arab Community where everybody keeps a watchful eye on the Australian media and their references to our community. The Purpose of this organisation is to:

* To monitor what is being published by the Australian Media regarding the Arabs, both positively and negatively
* Establish strong Relationships with the media and Actively Encouraging Arab Students to study, media and journalism at university.
* Establish Strong ties with human rights organisations to combat racism and discrimination.


We believe that the centre of this organisation will be University students. This is why I have been given an opportunity to gather Arab speaking University Students from across Sydney (About 100) to attend the opening of this idea and promote this campaign.

The centre requires a lot of support to launch this campaign, so that it can adequately defend our community.

When: 22nd of December 2004.

I reckon the media watch thing is a good idea that could limit the amount of anti-Arab news articles. This could lead to an increase in tolerance between different religions, cultures, nationalities, etc in Australia.

However, the Arab media must do the same. Ive read some al jazeera stories and they are so anti-Israel and anti-US, much more biased than the Israeli and American media.

A neutral attitude in the media is vital for tolerance towards different peoples.

I don't think you should just accept another nations laws, you should also be culturally sensative... so i definately don't disagree that in those countries women should wear scarves but i think in australia maybe they should adapt to some of our customs too.

It also depends what Muslim country u go to. Turkey and Egypt are fine regarding laws for non-Muslims. However, Iran is another story.

Its good to learn about other people's cultures so that you understand why they do certain things and so that when you travel abroad you have an idea of the culture of the specific country.
