I am a law student at UTS but want to transfer next year into a BEd/BA. Is USYD or UNSW a better option? I've read some negative stuff re the UNSW degree but most of it is from at least a few years ago... and the USyd course is an extra year, as well as all that talk of USyd being a tad snobby. Any insight into both courses would be heaps appreciated... Cheers

Not when they both provide the same outcome at the back end

And since you're still a child yes you would choose Sydney

For real, no one would care if you're from UNSW or Sydney as long as you're from one of them.

Choose based on student life, ie: campus you prefer, travel times, student events, bars, societies, student unions, racial demographics, bragging rights, etc.

okay I see your point. So in terms of social life and campus accommodation (if you know anything about it) do you think UNSW trumps USYD? Even though you will probably have a biased view seeings ur from new south... Still, insight from people actually doing the courses would be useful... :)

I like UNSW because I'm not a great fan of hipsters and I can deal with ethnic minorities a lot better than my fellow whites. That and it's a very quite campus in terms of politics. There aren't really that many greenies/socialists soliciting their views. You might get a "free the refugees" flyer every couple of months. The Christians are fairly tame as well, except when they get their yearly message out. Being a libertarian, all of that nonsense is pretty annoying, so it's good not having to deal with it. That and we get the Roundhouse as our unibar.

On-Campus accommodation, they're both fairly expensive. You're looking at $300+ a week with food provided and $250+ a week without food. Some colleges on both campuses actually charge upwards of $400 a week. They're both fairly similar, UNSW is really close to a lot of shops being smack bang in the middle of Kensington and it's a 10 minute bus ride from the beach if that's your thang. Sydney is closer to train stations and probably closer to clubs and that sorta jazz.

For your degree though, there probably aren't that many differences. I'm an engineering student so I don't really know. Go to the Open Days for both universities in the next week or two and see what one you like better. From passing observations, girls seem to enjoy Sydney a bit more. Protip: UNSW's always rains.

lol i am not much of a hipster fan myself so i'll definitely keep that in mind, and I definitely like the idea of less political activism --- wayyy too much of this at UTS. Thanks for the advise lolsmith, i'll defs be headed to the open days :)
