why dont u play a song, where u play chords.
learn bar chords, normal chords, then progress to power chords.

simple songs, i cant remember the ones i learnt. but start easy then work ur way up.
start out doing 12 bar blues riffs to get strumming patterens down,

It's not hard, but the chord positions are some what problematic for new players.

dont start with mary had a little lamb, you'll just get bored and put the guitar down and wont pick it up again.

my tip is just get tabs to all the songs you like and try and play them. most you probably wont be able to, but a few youll be able to get. throw everything at the wall and see what sticks pretty much. dont spend too much time trying to learn a particular song, if you cant get it, then try another.

its not difficult, but then its not a good choice for a beginner.

the first song I leanrt was Good Riddance - Greenday, most people I know learnt that
Generally I found when I was learning that songs that you like, or are popular at the time are very difficult to play, and if you dont do the basics like me, its harder to play the good songs later, I wouldnt suggest it as a song to start with, butif you just want to play around with it why not??? I just found when songs were too difficult to play, they would sound crap and I would get frustrated

when beginning single note stuff is alot easier than playing songs where the chords change real quick.

try playing seven nation army.

wait........how long you been playing. if you been playing for a couple of months then yeah that switchfoot song should be fine.

if your just starting, try songs with the open string chord shapes.

knockin on heavens door, browned eyed girl, time of your life stuff like that

imo, you'd be better off by learning songs that use actual chords, rather than power chords. once you're used to the usual chords, power chords are a sinch.

yeah i agree with tempco on this one....i tried to learn all the small things for my first song and found it VERY hard to get the power chords right....luckily my friend who had been playing for a while gave me some pointers and told me to start odd with good riddance, once i had that down power chords became very easy
