hi guys

i get the msg "port 6881 blacklisted"

i've read around to try and use another port but i cna't find any that works

anyone out there able to suggest some good ports please?

BitTorrent's default ports are TCP 6881 - 6999, so use one of those.

The first ten in that range usually get blacklisted, so probably try the block after, always works for me "6891-6899"

Well you only really need one port open but if it has troubles with one it will use another port, so it is best to have a few open but ten is enough. I don't really know why I have all of them open, I might close some of them though because I think it leaves me vulnerable to getting hacked.

Some trackers, and domestic/international ISP's block these ports so you wont gain max speeds.
I use something in the 15000 range.

And yeah, if 6881 is so common, makes hackers job easier.

Although, I'm on 512 downstream and I limit it to 35 kB/s so rest of family can use some, so I never hit anywhere near full speed anyway.

How do you limit the speeds ? Via the router ?
Like, i got 2 desktops and 1 notepad, plus, im "reselling" the net to my neighbour, and when more than 2 users are on, its painfully slow.

I use Netlimiter on my desktop to limit how much I use, the BT client may be able to do this too, or other programs like NetPeeker .. so pretty much it's a generousity thing .. if you limit someone's computer like this, they might figure it out and unlimit it. I guess if you could limit by router, something I've never come across, it'd be better in your situation =/

I have heard some people have had problems with NetLimiter not completely limiting their connection. DU Super Controller is reportedly superior. You can also limit your download and upload speed per torrent in the Azureus Client.

Yeah BT will eat all of my bandwidth, that's why I use Az and Netlimiter to limit at the same time. Netlimiter only controls the bandwidth of that computer its installed on, so thats why it ain't such a great controller if you want to limit someone else, they can just disable it.

As Grizzly said, those ports are common and if left open haxors can hax you. Trackers, ISP's etc block those ports too for various legal reasons.

Also more ppl are NOT using 6881, thus, to get connected/access to them, use a larger, and different port range.

Yes, i dont use Azur, but, in ABC, u gotta change the port range in settings.
U also gotta open the ports on ur router.

My reason is coz ppl have been telling me

What good is that to me with my 512/128 Kbps ADSL? Is that the best you can come up with? Azureus maxes out my connection so I am happy.
