Censorship, too far? (2 Viewers)

Reading Motor magazine the other day, (or Wheels?) I read a section about censorship.

You've all seen the Holden Zafira add, where the kid draws on its brothers face, so they put her in the back?
Well, that add receieved several complaints because people saw that as "child abuse".
The Holden Adventra ad showed a car driving on a beach, and it recieved a complaint saying "beaches arent roads... even though it was filmed on Rainbow Beach, QLD, which is a gazetted road.

Also, I've noticed that the Jamster, Freaky Frog ringtone ad now has a censorship bar across the little frogs willy. Before you could see this thing jingling between the frogs legs, now it's a big censored bar...

Are people getting out of hand?

No, I knew people were stupid after the big deal over the Toyota Bugger! ads, I just didn't realise people were complaining about things, the average person didnt notice, or didnt give a shit about.

Child abuse, ffs, they put the kid in the backseat. I don' t get it.

I knew there was something wrong going on between that frog's legs...but I saw it again recently and thought it was my imagination!...But seriously, I was very dissapointed when they censored the uncut big brother so much.

"Harold Scruby loves publicity. Until the Federal Government referendum - clearly managed by John Howard to ensure a no result - on whether we wanted to become a republic and get rid of loony royals, Scruby headed up the movement for a new Australian flag, running competitions for new artists designs and flashing his pearly whites at any camera within range.
Then, five years ago, he came chairman of the Pedestrian Council of Australia.

Few people have any idea who funds this body, or who elects is management, but industry sources tell me it's responsible for all the complaints about car advertising.

The Advertising Standards Bureau admits the 53 complaints it received during 2004 came from only 4 whingers, and Scuby was behind most of them, including Mazdas Zoom Zoom series, a camry sportivo that didnt use its indicators, and the recent benz ad with the c class driving monk"

My French teacher didn't like them, because it meant animal sex back in her day.
But this links back to the morals thread, surely now that society is becoming less uptight (touch wood), the word bugger used in context with jamming your finger, or landing in a toilet isn't intended to offend..

I think they're taking it to far in a lot of things. Like the bugger adds, no one really cares. And in an animated frog? come on! animals run around naked all the time. They don't wear clothes.

But on to my personal pet hate... I HATE it when they bleep out the swearwords in songs, It irritates me so much.

What planet are you living on? Honestly. Less Uptight? In case you hadnt realised, the world is currently being run by a bunch of conservative gits who were democratically elected through the use of fear tactics and a global conscious naivety. Less uptight? Pffft.

Personally, I think alot of it has to do with ignorance, and hysteria.
People don't want violence on t.v because they think it will influence people...Others don't want overt sexual themes in ads and on television.

Remember when Ken Park came out, and they banned it from being played in Australia, due to its drugs, violence and incest?
I've seen it (a mate at adfa got it), and while it's in your face... Don't you resent that other people are telling you what you can and cannot see? Sure, Ken Park isn't something you're going to broadcaste on television, but I think if it was given an 18+, people should have the right to see it.

They ended up screening an Italian movie here last year, with Monica Belluci. It has a 9 minute gang rape scene, and people were trying to get it banned also.

well not too long ago society was the same as the "conservative gits". the conservative gits want society to stay uptight, but it's not, that's why they're a minority and considered conservative.

What planet are you living on? Do you think you can use our current government as a basis for the way the rest of society thinks? Did you not see the touch wood comment?
Of course people are still uptight, the baby boomers account for the majority of our population. Homosexuality, violence, etc... they were taboo back in the day, yet shows such as Queer as Folk are becoming rapidly popular.

Thats because if you block it out, it doesnt happen.

Whilst intelligent people deal in meaning, stupid people deal with signs. If you dont see it, it doesnt happen.

But that's just my point. People use ignorance to justify their decisions. They want things censored, or banned, because they're under the impression that if society can't see it, they wont know it's there.
We all know it happens, we don't need to see a visual representation in a movie... But that doesnt necessarily mean that we shouldnt have the choice.

The people who decide these things, are unfortunately, conservatives, and it will probably be a long time before this is changed...

If people vote for a government, generallly its because they share similar ideologies as the one's which the party endorses. Family First ring any bells? Why would there be a push towards nuturing "family values" if people were not getting uptight about sex or homosexuality or anything which is "nherently bad".

Touch wood does not take away from the over-riding sentiment behind the whole paragraph/comment.

Well great. Its nice to see we agree. And i doubt things will ever change. They will only get worse, just as governments around the world are becoming more and more systematic, authoritative and conservative. We will be American by the end of the decade with their FCC etc.
