Electrolysis is where electricity is used to provide the energy to break atomic bonds. An example of this is the electrolysis of Water which follows the following equation:
2H_20(l)--Electricity--->2H_2(g)+O_2(g)

Thermal decomposition is where heat is used to break the atomic bonds, an example is copper Carbonate represented by:
CuCO_3(s)----Heat---->CuO(s)+CO_2(g)

helloooo!!! kim!!! :)

+ combustion: a chemical change, especially oxidation, accompanied by the production of heat and light.

+ oxidation: a reaction in which the atoms in an element lose electrons and the valence of the element is correspondingly increased.

+ electrolysis: chemical change, especially decomposition, produced in an electrolyte by an electric current.

+ decomposition: separation into constituents by chemical reaction.
