Basically, a Com(Lib) degree is an extra year compared to a straight commerce degree, because you do compulsory language and mathematics units, as well as greater freedom for electives in the arts and science faculties.

i think that sums it up,
liberal studies is a much more diverse degree,

hoping not to confuse u more, there is a huge amount of commerce doubles floating around so be sure to check them as u may be able to find something that interests u.

you dont have to do any compulsory language or maths units lol b commerce (liberal studies) is NOT like b commerce combined with b liberal studies (b liberal studies has compulsory maths, science, language units) its just a commerce degree without pre reqs and the option to do a couple of units outside of the commerce arena

difference lies in a few main areas:

- instead of option of 1 or two commerce majors. you have to do 2

- no compulsory commerce pre rqs like acct, ecmt, or macro/micro (the catch is that to complete two commerce majors, you end up having to do about 50% + of the pre reqs. the good thing is that if u dont want anything to do with acct, you dont have to touch it.)

- one compulsory unit called "communications and critical analysis". its 6 credit points and looks a breeze so not much worry there. its just a unit in academic writing

- an extra year as minai said ( a year on top if you want honours, so 5 years for honours rather than 4)

- minimum of 24 credit pointsof arts or govt units (thats about 4 subjects)

- minimum of 12 credit points for science (2 subjects and you can cop out by doing psych or history of science if u dont want to do lab sciences)

edit: com (lib) would suit someone interested in certain areas of commerce but still wants to do some "interest units" like english, history, philosophy or whatever. check out the majors you want and see what pre reqs they require. usually u can skip about 2 of the pre reqs (im skipping acct 1b and information systems)

further questioN?

i saw someone on this board with 2 econ and business majors, with 1 other major in a language..is that possible??

and also, the above post said that there is no compulsory language or math units...but then the minimum 4 unit of art and 2 unit of science is still "compulsory" yes?

thanks

yes. that's compulsory

arts can be substituted for govt and int relations in equivalent form

the 3 majors is only possible with b commerce (lib studies) unless you are doing a double degree of comm/arts

Not at Sydney University. No cumpulsory (spelling mistake intended) mathematics units. The only language-type unit is a communications-style UOS where you do stuff on porn and drugs. It's brilliant.
You need to do 4 subjects in Arts/Government
2 subjects in Sciences (psych inclusive)
2 majors in business or whatever.

But it really depends on what you wish to do with your life. Whilst this degree can be good for marketing or government type stuff, it's not as good for accounting etc.

because if someone is say considering a major in accounting and accounting-related stuff like anal sex and finance, economics etc, it'd make more sense for the person to do a b commerce, as broader stuff wouldn't really be required.
btw, what science subs are u considering doing

i don't see why a broader spectrum of knowledge would hinder an accounting graduate...

@stas doubt it, youre much too popular with tha ladeiz to study this semester. additionally, being in my govt class and being compared to my greatness will make you look terrible. dont expect more than a P.

I'm actually getting unbelievably high marks and am topping 2 subjects atm despite studying a lot less than last semester with a higher workload. Just goes to prove that having a massive penis gets you high marks.
You're right about the second part. You're too sexy :(

not everyone completing an acct major is an "acct finance, i wanna climb the corporate ladder clone" Even if you were, you coudl still have interest in other things or maybe even want to complete a language study which is very useful.
