If they provide a sentence as a stimulus, do we have to start with that sentence or put that sentence in our story?
And is pre-preparing a story advisable?

No often the stimulus is used as inspiration. There has to be some connection to it but unless they ask, you don't have to directly put it in your story.
And having a basic plotline/character that will fit in many situations is advisable!

2010 asked for that to be the beginning of the creative piece. But probably won't do that again… will just be for inspiration.
