does doing a language course and not being a native speaker disadvantage me alot? because i went to an openhs lesson and everyone there has a spanish background and talked to the teachers in fluent spanish. my level appears significantly lower and i feel like i cant compete and will get a bad grade..

you will be at a disadvantage obviously but that doesn't suggest it's impossible to do good, many 'non speaking' students perform well, its just gonna come down to how hard you try and practice. Languages scale well and i recommend you stick with it for a while and see how you go before thinking about dropping.
