You can see a cross section BY cutting a transversal cut. A longitudinal cut is cut lengthways, hence LONGitudinal. A transverse cut is across. So, on a celery, it would be perpendicular to the stalk of the celery. :)

+1. Transversal means cut across the sample (usually celery). Longitudinal, cut along the length.
Transversal you should see the vascular bundle with the xylem as the biggest circles, phloem as the smallest circles, and cambium in between them.
Longitudnal you should see the thickening of the xylem so ring thickening, single spiral and double sprial thickening and phloem, sieve cells and companion cells.

-bump-

I was just wondering if anybody had some decent diagrams that i could use in my summaries that would satisfy this corresponding dotpoint, as well as being relatively reasonable in the artistic skill needed to replicate them in an exam?
Please and thank you :)

I just thought I would attach my diagrams of the xylem and phloem.

Hope they help anyone!
