what do you guys think is the best option for the new government in iraq?

Whether or not you agree with the invasion, the fact is that a government needs to be set up now that saddam has been deposed. Here's my understanding of what each option is:

government of technocrats-
i think this is the UN's favored option ... it'd be a government made up of people who have the technical skills to rebuild the infrastructure in iraq's society after the devistation that occured. It wouldn't be elected, which is a problem because 'liberated' iraqis should theoretically have a say in the process.

interim government made up of established politicians from iraq-
US's preference. I don't really like the idea because there is too much danger that it could focus on old political rifts rather than rebuilding iraq. The US likes the idea because they think that a government of established politicians will have stability.

a proper democratic government-
The USA doesn't want this at all because the majority of iraq's population is shi'ite muslim, not christian. If a vote was put to them they'd probably establish a theocracy like with the ayatollahs in iran.

communism/socialism-
there you go euripidies...

Feel free to correct me about any of that... it's just my dodgy general knowledge :)

Which do you think is best?

Just a thought:
Technocrats to start off with.......I guess thats the better option for me coz I would wanna build the country up first and foremost......a real system of government should be considered only after everything else is under control.

probably not only stability. if you know where i'm gettin at. i sense corruption or "trade" between iraq and us governments>>>black gold?

i voted technocrats. socialism would be a great move but i think there's enough controversy surrounding the iraq "issue" at the moment. maybe in a few yrs eh ;)

Communism/Socialism or democracy is certainly not an option right now. The Dr Zhivargo actor said on foreign correspondent that democracy wont work in the middle-east for decades to come, because education is so poor and it is simply not for everybody...it is very much a western idea for wealth nations. Same goes for socialism. There is no way that this type of necessary unity will be achieved especially with a militant Islamic faith begining to be the real concensus.
Technocrats from the UN with heavy support from the US is the only real option for the next few years. This will no doubt give the impression of "white man knows best", but it's the only way to minimise violence and threats to global security in Iraq. Iraq is sitting on a golden egg with their oil and there is no doubt that they will be set if this can be properly utilised.

i have to say Communism/Socialism is just not going to happen at this time, like Alexander said the people need education. and for what type of government to run, well it has to be accepted by the people so the only one to work will be "government elected by the people themselves". right now i can't see a way out.

Iraqi politicians would have probably been supporters of Saddam before, and are probably only interested in their own self interest.
If they are not duly elected representatives of the people, then they're not much good at running the country for the people

I demand the representation of other political systems on that poll.

I'd really like to be crowned the King of Iraq. That'd be great. I'd really dig that.

Why is everyone so obssessed with Democracy anyway... It's not really all that crash hot, it doesn't work properly except very small ancient greek cities... The process was not meant to expand with population. 51% of the people may get what they want, but 49% are ignored. And what 51% of people want may not be the best thing for the country.

Anyway, I heard something somewhere about Middle Eastern country being totally unsuited to the whole democracy thing... *shurgs* I voted technocracy, they will need people to rebuild the country after all this crap, right, wrong, or whatever.

I go with techocratic.

The country needs to be rebuilt before another form of government can be installed.

I'd still argue it was a more accurate democracy than ANYTHING the west has ever produced. And I didn't really mean it was perfect there either.... just our best example...
