How do you guys go about getting it in on time? It just took me a little over 60 mins to write 5 A4 pages. How many lines should I be writing for each text with the inclusion of contrasting/comparing etc if I have 2 poems and 2 relate texts?

Thanks.

your whole essay should be about 1300 words, which you should be able to write in 40 mins

you can write 1300 words if you want, but they only expect 700-1000. The HSC markers i know constantly stress quality over quantity, but for some reason most students cannot get this into their head

6-8 pgs of quality writing can get you full marks
-answer the question and support it and that will get you the full marks
-cut down on all the excess and you should be able to get like 1000 or at least 1100 of raw quality work.

I suck at essay, but i did about 900 words in the trials (in about 45 mins) and got a 13/15 for my belonging paper and leaving enough time for 40 mins of pre-rehearsed creative time (I do it out of order - ext 1 habit)

I think if my spelling/grammar was better and I answered the Q a little more convincingly I would have got full marks even with only 900 words. I'm not sure about the HSC but I wouldn't think that writing more than 1100 words is necessary. After a certain point your just going to be babbling.

Be succinct, to the point and Stick to the question and you will do fine.

ps, I cannot write more than 1300 words in 40 min of a MEMORIZED essay so don't stress if you think your writing is to slow. its quality over quantity :p

IMHO you should write 5-6 pages in HSC booklets. which is like 4 regular pages but I could be way off

That's total crap. 900 words of high quality stuff is enough for you to do well.

I guess the only thing you could do, OP, is to maybe shorten the length of your essay by a bit by taking out redundant sentences, or just keep practising until your hand falls off.

You mentioned A4 paper.
Have you practiced writing on the exam paper?
