I'm looking at Melbourne & ANU mostly, but what do I know?

I want to do a BComm or BEcon depending on which has better future prospects. Major would probably be Intl Business or Management. Minor in Arts - Political Science and/or Philosophy. So what course/which Uni should I consider?

There is absolutely no information anywhere I've looked on getting in from NZ. Mostly I'm concerned with the entrance requirements, everyone keeps talking about their "UAI"s or whatever but its so vague & I have no idea what kind of grades I should be getting. Can anyone help me with that?

I sent an email to Admissions people at ANU & they replied with "The entry requirements for the two programs you have asked about are 307 NCEA credit point total." Does anyone know what the hell that means??

Help is desperately needed & will be much appreciated!

if you were a NZ citizenhttp://www.goingtouni.gov.au/Main/Quickfind/PayingForYourStudiesHELPLoans/Default.htm, you are entitled to be a commonwealth-supported student and pay for your studies at a post-2005 HECS rate. however, there will be no payment deferral or discount. payment will be required to be made upfront.

if you're a NZ PR resident only, then you will not be commonwealth-supported, and will need to pay for university in full.

start herehttp://www.uac.edu.au/mya/indexhome.html for New South Wales undergraduate admissions. also note thishttp://www.uac.edu.au/mya/admin/overseas.html page.

here's an explanation of what our UAIhttp://www.boredofstudies.org/wiki/index.php?title=UAI is.

i suggest you email ANU again and ask them what equivalent leavers' certificate marks (whatever process you use in NZ for school leavers) you would need to attain for their "NCEA".

The NCEA IS the New Zealand leaving certificate. It's the rank that most students in New Zealand would get after finishing high school. If you do the NCEA, I'm sure that one of your teachers would be able to better explain to you what "307 NCEA credit points" actually means. If you do the International Baccalaureate (IB) you'll need a 26 to do B Arts/B Commerce at ANU (B Arts/B Commerce would let you do philopsophy, political science and international business) and a 26 to do a straight B Commerce.

I'm not sure what you have to do regarding the actual application proccess. You may either have to apply through http://www.uac.edu.au/ or directly to ANU. For Umelb you may have to apply through http://www.vtac.edu.au/ or apply directly to the university. You'll need to do some research there.

Both universities are fine in terms of academics. However, even though you're mainly concerned about cut offs and what not, it's also advisable to do some research on accomodation and the cities in which you'll be spending the next 4 or so years of your life. If you want to live on campus at the ANU at least, accomodation is guaranteed for first years, but if you don't apply early (before September) you may be relegated to an off campus college. In terms of social life (and expenses) both Melbourne and Canberra... are quite different :p

Good luck!
