Ok anyone can help me !! i just gotta get some help!
Well, i while ago i applied for a Creative Arts: Design And New Media course by sending some examples of works which the UOW wanted. for example, t-shirt deisgns, logos etc did anyone else do this!??

I recieved a letter saying they would like to interview me and i need to showcase most my recent work
Problem is.. ive been wrapped in school and other things, i dont have any recent work other than the ones they already have.
i finish my final year exams on the 4 of November and the Interview is on the 4 of December
i dont think i have enough time to dazzle them enough to get accepted and i really want toooo!!
So heres what they are looking for in my work i was wandering if anyone could tell me what i should base my art work and digital work on...
They want applicants to show:
- Familiarity with the body of knowledge in their chosen Feild
- Creative Potential
- Critical Thinking
- Willingness to work Collaboratively
- Openness to new Approaches
- Evidence of intellectual and Artistic Curiosity

im so confused at the moment, i iwsh they had sent this letter after my exams coz now its taking over my mind!
help!
thanks!!

I got an interview there too, but for Creative Writing, and I'm wondering the same things.

Good luck with your interview BTW :)

to be honest, i have noo clue... i'm kinda freaking out.
i keep looking at the list of things they want to see from us and thinking of my answers to each... like who my influences are and what it is about their styles and ideas that i like and stuff.

have you got anything you're doing to prepare?
i don't even know if i should take in more of my writing or what...

well, i was going to prove that i've always loved writing since i knew how- by showing them this book of short stories i wrote between yr 3 and yr 7....they're pretty crappy but pretty good considering my age.....

other than that, i was going to take my ext eng 2 story to show them and perhaps discuss it....

do u reckon that they'll organise some sort of writing workshops for the day to get a better idea about our writing skills?

Ah, that's a good idea!
Maybe I'll bring the "book" I wrote when I was like 6, and short stories and stuff from when I was younger... I don't know if I have many though... I move a lot and so much stuff has been lost over the years!

A writing workshop would be mad, it's been so long since I've been to one!
I'm really looking forward to the Interview now, even though I don't think I'll get in (I didn't even do advanced English for my HSC year... stupid yr 11 teacher who made me drop down!)
Maybe I'll take more of the crappy "novel" I'm been attempting to write and discuss that, who knows, hehe.

Good luck with your interview!

thanx!! good luck wiv urs too- hey are u going on the 27th november? i'll probably see u- if there arent hundreds of applicants....

i dont think the fact u did standard should matter- cos as long as u show u are dedicated- i think everyone has a chance! atm, my creative writing is a bit juvenile, but i really want to improve on that cos i havent had the chance in the past....

i really hope i get in- i dunno whether my uai will get me into the other courses i want! and i'd soooo love to do this one!

Nah, my interview's December 2nd (thank god it's not the 27th, I'm away on schoolies then!), so I won't see you.

I really hope I get in too... not just because of the UAI issues (which I also have! I totally screwed up my exams) but also because I think it looks like an amazingly GREAT course!

Thanks for your advice, good luck with your interview!

I dunno, I've been wondering that too... do you think they're interviewing like everyday between Nov 27 - Dec 2? They must have a lot of people!
Or maybe they're doing it in small, focus group type things.

I have noo clue what we'd be doing for a whole day!
Maybe it's a workshop like you suggested. *shrugs*

I'm nervous already.

yeah me too!
i dunno how much i should be preparing- theres only so much u can do! i have to work out which authors have inspired me...i've liked a couple- like morris glietzman and paul jennings, but thats kiddie stuff! unfortunately i havent had much time for any leisure reading lately! lol!

and i HOPE there arent too many ppl- i'll have no chance otherwise against all of those really smart private school kids! (i'm from a south wesr public school)

Yeah, true. I might go through the point forms and make like mind-maps of my ideas or something... this interview means a lot to me, I wasn't expecting to get one.

Well, I think it's fair enough to mention kids authors, you've been a kid way longer than you've been an adult or a teenager or whatever, so there's been more time for influencing then.
Hm, and you could put it into like, "adult" terms "I feel the humour used in the situation enthralled and amused readers while easing the tension of the scene blah blah" "The surreal nature of the books theme made for interesting, yet thought provoking reading" hehe! (Uh, I'm kinda hyper tonight so sorry if I'm rambling like an idiot!)

I hope there's not too many people too! (I'm from a north-west public school)
I'd really like to know how many people applied, how many got auditions, and how many they're accepting. I reckon they should have put that on the letter they sent or something.

yeah i wish they did! then at least i'd know where i stand!

that brainstorming idea sounds good...i might do that later today, since i'm not doing anything too exciting! This interview means heaps to me too, i just wish that it wasnt 2 days after my formal- i'm gonna be stuffed!

are you going wiv anyone on the day? I think my mum is coming- there's no way that i'd go there on my own! i'd feel like such a nigel! but then, what if i start socialising with someone- my mum is gonna be hanging around! not that i'm looking for love or anything- i already got a bf- but still, how embarrassment! lol

hey! well i no ur at schoolies....but i had my interview yesterday!

it went pretty well i think...i had to wait a while for my interview tho...but i was asked questions about my writing and i was given a hypothetical storyline 'boy meets girl' and was asked to expand on it. I liked the two people interviewing me, as i heard that the other two ppl were very critical and intimidating! but all of the ppl applying all seemed really nice!

good luck wiv urs!

I actually just got back from schoolies today!

I think I'm going all on my own. I don't really care if I look like a nigel or not, I'm just really shy and hate being alone in new places. I'm so freaked out by that, but I guess it'll encourage me to talk to other people.

How long did the interview go for?
The "boy meets girl" storyline thing sounds ugh. I don't really do those kinds of storylines... I hope I get a different one.
I hope I get the nice interviewers, but knowing my luck I won't, LOL.

Oh, what did you do about bringing additional writing? I was thinking of bringing the second chapter one of the works I submitted, the first chapter to another, totally different stylistically, book I'm [trying] to write, and then a few stories from when I was younger.
Did they ask about that at all, and if they did, did they look at them or collect them or anything?

Ahh, sorry about all these questions. I guess I'll find out when I go on Tuesday!

hey! nah its okay bout the questions....

the interview itself went for maybe 15 mins...if that- it didnt seem to go for very long... the girl that went b4 me was asked what she would do in a situation where there was a derelict on the side of the road....so i'm sorta happy with the idea i got...

i brought a whole bunch of additional stuff- so did other ppl, but i never ended up showing any of it. they didnt even ask me!! I briefly mentioned my childish stories and said that i brought them- but they didnt seem to want to see them! But i'd bring that stuff u had planned anyway...u never know- they may want more proof towards ur talent!

good luck!!

Well, it's the night before my interview and I'm freaking out!

Mainly because I can't get home from Wollongong... that and the fact that all my older work has been put in a "safe" place and can't be found.

Agggh!
