So I was really hoping to get a band 6 in advanced maths and I'm going into the hsc with an assessment mark of around 76 after trials (I was on 88 before the trials but then I got destroyed). I'm wondering whether my mark will get scaled/aligned first and then it will be compared with my external hsc mark or if it'll get scaled depending on how I go in the actual hsc. I'm ranked around 10 ish

Can I still get a band 6 in maths? Last year the maths students got scaled up an average of 19 marks. Does that mean my mark might make it into the 90s?

Really don't get how this scaling stuff works.

EDIT: I might be getting aligning and scaling mixed up. Could someone somehow explain it to me?

Thanks :)

Aligning = Done by BOS, mark is raised higher from what you actually got in the HSC.
Moderation = Done by BOS, uses your External HSC as well as everyone else's in your cohort mark to modify your internal marks and aligns them (usually higher depending on how everyone performed)
Scaling = Done by UAC to generate your ATAR
