I've seen past band 6 paper where the writer only used 2 poems from BDay letters, and only 2 supplementaries as well.

So I was wondering how many should I use. because I thought it was compulsory to use 3 poems... and I only wanted to do 2 supp.

so how many did you do?

Where did you hear that it was compulsary to use three poems?!?!

I only used two. I also only ended up using one supplementary text, I think, although we were told to prepare at least two.

In the CSSA Trial 2005, the question asked for only ONE supplementary text. My teacher said not to use any more then two because the focus is Ted Hughes.

it doesn't really matter - it's not how many you use but what you do with them - but if the q specifies two make sure you use two, unless it's a really brilliant essay they're not going to let you off with one related text.
you can't discuss more than three poems it gets superficial; two is a good number.
