How much money do you make working as a chartered accountant?

Is it a decent job, or is it something that you tire of quickly?

jb_nc, honestly, anymore spamming from you, at all, I will have no hesitation to ban you.

Oh, and to the thread starter, quite a hefty amount per year. Go have a look at the salaries through www.mycareer.com.au and search for chartered accountants. You'll have a good idea that way :)

How much, in general, do you make if you're not a manager?

I guess what I'm asking is how does it compare to salaries in other areas?

if you're fully qualified and working in the public sector, probably 60-70k give or take. The pay isn't great compared to other areas.

rough pay scale for CA:

upon qualification: >65K as above poster said
2 years PQE: 80-100K
3 years + PQE: 100K - whatever
and so on...

but as jb_nc said:
how long is a piece of string

lol I was going to reply with the string response but someone beat me to it..

What you're asking is comparable to asking how much a commerce degree will earn you.

Depends on company, position, etc.

Then keep in mind the 'ol 'most CFO's have a CA' fact and you can figure out for yourself that there'd be an enormous salary difference between John Bloggs doing tax returns in the suburbs and John Doe with CFO on his desk.

But yeah.. refer to salary surveys etc.

I checked out Mycareer's salary centre and it's very interesting

The accounting industry jobs average salary is actually higher than legal and medical AND banking/financial services but lower than engineering. Unforunately the types of jobs on mycareer might have distorted the results so it can't be read into too much, but still :)

http://content.mycareer.com.au/salary-centre

P.S. PQE = post qualification experience, though pretty much equivalent to what you guys said
