hey peepz,

how do you calculate the GPA if you have failed a subject, and then passed it on your 2nd attempt.

im thinking of 3 possibilties in calculation methods:-

1. Disregard the first failed attempt and only count the most recent passed attempt.
2. Add the 1st attempt and 2nd attempt, and divide it by 2 to get the average mark out of the two attempts.
3. Adding 1 to the denominator. (eg. for a 3 year course, instead of dividing it by 24, you divide it by 25 instead.... assuming you only failed once.)

Anyone know for sure? most people i have asked have no idea how it all works for people who have failed subjects.

If you're looking for an external transfer through UAC a fail is worth 0 POINTS

HD - 7
D - 6
C -5
P - 4
PC - 3

From memory. Internal transfers and the WAM given to you by your uni upon graduation are different though.

Check with your student centre.

yep that is correct. the GPA contributor for a fail is 0.

so, if you get 3 credits and a fail, with each subject being 6 credit points, you would calculate it by adding and dividing:
5+5+5+0/24

hmm 15/24= 0.625 wow close to fail
but yeah using the guide that bobness posted you could calculate your gpa, assuming that all the credit points are of equal value.
or just check the first post of this thread.

???? GPA will be 5+5+5+0/4 which equals 15/4 which is 3.75. Dont know where you guys got the other numbers from. Assuming they are all worth the same CP btw.

And dingo, stop trying to convince yourself that you dont get penalised. Fail = 0 for GPA.
