herroo guys,

I'm having a bit of trouble with identifying which ions to eliminate in net ionic equations

eg. BaCl2 + Na2SO4--> BaSO4 +NaCl

Ba2+ + 2Cl- + 2Na+ + SO4(2-) --> Ba2SO4(s) + Na+ + Cl-

do i cancel out the Cl- and Na+ because they have the same valencies on both sides? Or do i leave them because it is 2Cl- and 2Na+ on one side and not on the other?

hint: have a look at your solubility rules

a yeah, umm, its not the solubilities i'm having trouble with though,
i no that BaSO4 forms a ppte and i no that Na won't however i'm not positive on which ions to eliminate in that equation

thanks for trying to help tho

you're trying to eliminate the spectator ions

ionic equations were always shit, especially total and net ionic. kill death destroy.

thanks, i think i see what happened in my equation that i got confused on what to eliminate, i didn't put a 2 in front of the NaCl to balance the equation

Thanks for the help!
