IPT is pretty bludgy...lol...
i think it taught me alot though, like alot of the stuff for uni requires computers, and i think i have less trouble with that side of it than people who didnt do IPT...

Im doing IT at uni....and the terminology i learnt thru the IPT course is definitely helping me and giving me an edge as it covers all sorts of information systems! such as communication sys, transaction processing sys, multimedia systems, information systems and databases.....roooolly helpful! and Im doing IT at UTS...and from what ive heard is that in between UTS, USYD and UNSW, UTS is the only one which has a separate IT faculty.....while usyd and unsw grab subjects from engineering and science departments mostly....my course is called B Sc IT/ Dip IT PP...see my signature...it says it all ;)

i'm doing software kinda thingo in uni atm..it has no relevance!!

well..say max 10%

but let say when it comes to problem solving and ciritcal thinking, if u can develop the skills u have in IPT, its definately an advantage...

IPT hmm
it's just one massively easy and bludgy subject:)
very easy to do well in!

well IPT doesn't really help if your not going to continue with an IT path...

the only major advantage i can see is that it gets you used to the long/annoying/tedious assignments which you will face in uni!

It helps in anything do with Information Technology/Systems, you just get an edge having seen it before. Not to say you can't easily survive without having done it but it would help. It does not help for a course like Software Eng.

Also it might not directly help but instead teach you how to handle situations. Such as drawing diagrams, you might never draw another context diagram but you'll probably need to whip something in various different models, so it'll help to have learnt a form of diagram drawing before hand. Also working in a group will happen alot in life (I've done it enough and only 1st yr at uni), so dealing with group members is also good to experience.

While at uni it will be more involved, you've got some previous experience so you know how to handle the bullshit better ;)

For example normalization in IPT is different to normalization at Uni, however you've seen it before in IPT, so you take the concepts you understand in IPT and presto the Uni stuff clicks right off the bat.

As for the different Uni's and courses, it depends what you want to do, while lil star is enjoying IT at uts that particular course just didn't offer the right level of programming for me and thus I chose to do comp sci at UNSW (which has the best comp lecture in the known world, love you richard!) although I'm jealous they don't touch any maths!!!

All in all, do IPT.

yc...i have the best object oriented programming lectuerer as well....Go Raymond! funniest lecture of all...makes Java fun to learn! :)

Comp Science is more programming side....while IT is more leadership....i guess more broad....but if u are "sure" u want to be on programming side eventually do Comp Science!
