Do most people generally get a higher atar than initially expected?

Why do you have to ask such a noob question? People are not psyhic in predicting there atar or a close approximation, you can only give an educated guess at your ATAR.

and worse than expected with bad scaling subjects

coz a band 5 in general maths will fuck you up real bad

rate my subjects on scaling, like good or bad or decent-ish..

But honestly the only true estimation you can go off is how well you go in exams such as CSSA as all other exams are highly subjective depending on your school. Even the marking of trial exams will differ from school to school. So essentially, until that lovely morning of.. 14th? of December, you could really be +-10 in your guess...
