King Lear: 10 most important Quotes? (1 Viewer)

Yeah g'day.
My teacher wants me to memorise ten quotes by tomorrow. Ive got a few quotes so far, though i wanted to nail it with the best quotes.
Which ones should I use?
NB - "Nothing, my Lord."; "Pray, Nuncle."; "Prithee Sirrah!" arent quotes lol...

A few quotes i'm thinking of using include:
Lear - " I am a man more sinned against than sinning. "
Kent - " See better Lear; and let me reamin true blank of thine eye. "
Lear - " Peace kent! Come not between the dragon and his wrath! "
Lear - " The bow is bent and drawn, make from the shaft! "
Lear - " Better thou hadst not been born than not t' have pleased me better! "
Glou - " I have no way, and therefore want no eyes; "

Those two middle ones by LEar are pretty shit, so i'll leave them out I think...
What else should I include?

There are many, depending on which reading you are talking about:

Cordelia: (to Lear) "I return those duties back as are right fit"
Lear: "Which of you shall we say doth love us most"
Cordelia: "Time shall unfold what plighted cunnings hide"
Lear: "And from her derogate body never spring/ A babe to honour her."
Fool: "Thou shouldst not have been old till thou hadst been wise"
Lear: "I have ta'en too little care of this"
Edmond: "The younger rises when the old doth fall"
Glouster: "Thou sayst the king grows mad; I'll tell thee, friend,/ I am almost mad myself"
Glouster: "I have no way, and therefore want no eyes:/ I stumbled when I saw"
Edmond: "The wheel has come full cirle; I am here"
Kent: "Is this the promised end?"
Lear: "Do you see this? Look on her! Look, her lips./ Look there, look there." (he dies)

I think it's symbolic of Lear's refusal to accept any resposibility for his flaws and the disaster they inadvertantly cause - because at this point in the play, he hasn't realised that he is "old and foolish" (when he asks Cordelia for forgiveness), and that he is in fact partly responsible for his own downfall.

You can compare these two quotes to show his changed perspective as a character - may relate to the theme of Redemption and the Christian ideals expressed in the play - that one must admit to one's own sin before being redeemed.
